  1. And now they are changing the schedule again. Schools have been closed, state has been under a state of emergency, people have been stranded on the interstate in Western Kentucky and yet we must get the games played before the girls state tournament? Weather events like this happen once every 20 or so years, safety concerns should be taken into consideration. Lets just hope for a sunny and warm day Saturday.

  2. Never before has any team that I know of been allowed to go to hoptown or Madisonville and practice.

Never before has any team that I know of "asked" to go to hoptown or Madisonville and practice.

Of course, with the weather coming in and the regional being at Union County who really knows when the 2nd regional tourney start or end.

  3. Western Kentucky 4 - 10 inches predicted. First region is at Murray State, which even with the snow should be able to get roads decent for travel within a couple of days. But the second region is at Union County and if they get 8 inches of snow who knows when they will be able to play those games.

  4. In a packed house at Murray, Calloway survives in overtime. Calloway led 14-8 after the first. They also had a 5 point lead at halftime. In the second half, Murray came out and actually took the lead in the third quarter but Calloway did take a one point lead,(35-34) into the 4th quarter. With 4 minutes left Murray had retaken the lead and was up 3. The Tigers biggest lead came with 2:12 left as the were up 4. With just over a minute left and Murray with a 1 point lead, Calloway started to foul. Murray was letting the air out of the clock. Twice with a one point lead Murray missed the front end of the bonus. With 10 seconds left Calloway went to the line down 1. Only hitting 1 of the free throws and the game went into overtime. (43-43)

Calloway scored the first basket and held on to the victory. These two teams are really good. And the atmosphere was great. Looking forward to an interesting First region tournament.

  5. First time since 1991 Marshall County not in the first regional tournament? First losing season since 1976. This was not an upset but I thought Marshall could pull it off if things went their way and it almost did. They got it down to 1 in the fourth quarter but Murray got things going their way and hit enough FT's to get the job done. First time since 2001 that Murray has made it back to the regional tournament.

  6. In the 2nd, the size of Henderson County is a big factor too They are so much larger than Union County or Webster County (& Providence before that.)

And with that said, if there isn't a change to 3 team districts, I do not believe Henderson County will ever be the third worse team in that district. I am not a fan of 3 teams districts and feel like it is unfair how they get a bye every year to the region.

  7. The second region is at Union County. I personally cannot remember it ever being anywhere except Hoptown and Madisonville. Back and forth for years between those two schools. Both places located wherever you are coming from, it is a 4 lane highway to those gyms. (maybe the last mile is 2 lane)

This year it goes to Union County which you cannot get to within 20 miles on a 4 lane highway. Two lane road and most of the teams will have to travel the one with the most turns.

I guess it is ok to spread the games around, but Union County may have been the worst one to have to travel to. So we will see how it goes. Or in other words I will listen on the radio or attend the first region at Murray State. I can get there in almost the same amount of time.

  8. I have seen Calloway now 4 times this season. I know that isn't a lot but I do see a problem come region time. They seem to get the benefit of close calls. Come regional tournament and a different set of regional officials; they could struggle. Just this weekend against Madisonville they were in the double bonus before a second foul was called on Calloway. With less than minute to go in the first half their second foul was called. They have 3 loses, all 3 on the road. Or in other words, not first region officials. So I agree that Paducah Tilghman could knock them off and it will not be a surprise. They are a very good shooting team but I don't know how good a bench they actually have. Maybe I am wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time. I do hope to get down that way and watch some of the first region tournament. I usually attend the second region tourney but it is going to be at Union County this year. It is easier for me to go Murray State than it is to get to Morganfield.

  9. What a test for the Racers. Down 10 with just over 5 minutes left, the Racers are able to get the game into overtime. TJ Sapp hits 3 free throws with 2.6 seconds left in regulation. From there it was back and forth in overtime. Murray State has now won 21 in a row.

The Racers next game will be Saturday when they host Austin Peay and that game will be televised by the CBS sports network.

They clinched the OVC regular season title with the victory over SEMO.
