  1. Christian County defeated Hopkins Co. Central 2 to 1 on Friday night. The Lady Colonels scored 2 runs in the 4th inning. Hopkins Central scored 1 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

This is the second year in a row for CCHS to represent the 2nd region. Hopkins County Central, played in their 5th out of the last 6 regional finals. They have won the region twice.

  2. Head Coach and ALL assistants are eligible to be members and any member gets one vote. As of the present guidelines, a coach can vote for a player on his own team. So a large school with 6 assistants can have 7 votes for their own player if they choose.

Now, for coach of the year, a head coach cannot vote for himself, but his assistants can vote for him. They are now considering changing their voting policy. I think this might explain how Hopson did not make player of the year in the second region but was considered the second best player in the state.

  3. Well I know for a fact that the assistants get to vote. Whether or not you go by how someone played against you or if you just by stats I guess is your choice. I really think that only two people should get to vote, the head and main assistant. As far as voting for someone other than a UHA player has sort of faded. Now, had the big kid from Nashville last year been in contention, I could see someone not voting for him since he just happens to show up his senior year. But Scotty has been there the whole time. Im sure Edmonson(sp?) did gather votes. There were plenty of people who felt like he was the captain of the UHA ship and should get poy. Not to take anything away from Terry, he earned his recognition also.

  4. It is my understanding that all coaches, head and assistants vote on the player of the year. Henderson for example has about 5 or 6 coaches, Christian County has 5 or 6 coaches, UHA, I believe has 3. Now Im not saying that one team voted just for their player but it might be the reason. I attended the state tourney, Hopson played worse than he did during the season, but still didnt "play hard" during the entire game. Miller didnt get after it either in their first game, but after that game he started doing more. Against Elliott I couldnt understand why he kept bringing the ball down the floor and playing outside. Elliott had no answer for him inside at all. I am from Region 2 and I saw Hopson play several games. Will he go to UK, I dont know. Will he ever get to the level of playing hard for the entire game? I dont know. Was he the best player in the region? YES

  5. As someone who watched UHA several times this year, I was dissappointed with their performance at the state tourney also. But Im not for sure if Hazard, Paintsville, or South Laurel would have played much better in that first game against Lex Cath. I think Elliott might have been a possible entertaining game but really not for sure if they could have handled all the bumping going on either.

  6. 1. Christian County

    2. Hopkinsville

    3. Hopkins Central

    4. Henderson

    5. Madisonville

Hard to argue with the list. Christian should come loaded next year. If everyone returns. The three "H" schools should have good seasons as well. Madisonville will use the first half of the season finding their starters to go with Hood, and then they should be ready by tourney time. There are some rumblings also of coaching changes and players moving away.
