1) Walton-Verona has the best overall package; IMO top team talent-wise, with two large inside players and a stable of guards. Not confident or really quick on the perimeter, though, and must break out mentally to beat SK.
2) Simon-Kenton is next; Wainscott willb be back; playing at home in region tourney; not deep but used to cutting down the nets. Until they are dethrowned ... they are tops.
3-4) Anderson Co./South Oldham - both with lots of young talent, athletic but not always consistent; first meeting means nothing with these two teams: neither team is complete inside and outside.
5-6) Double-Os are next: Oldham and Owen are capable of getting through three games.
After that there some one-game upset-capable teams, but no teams who can win it all.

Ballard seems to be poised to making some noise as the season enters the stretch drive.
-
Owen Co. schooled the Lady Dragons late last month, and it just might happen again tonight. It will be interesting to see how much each of these two teams have developed during that time.
-
If W-V were to win the rematch game with Simon Kenton, and there would be a tie for the district lead, what would the tie-breaker be?
-
Does this game have the same significance as it has the last few years? Is it a legitimate preview of an early 8th region tourney game? Thoughts ...?
-
Close game. Is the final margin an accurate depiction of if the game was really a nip and tuck affair? Sorry for not checking the details more closely, but the site of the game was where?
-
Apparently, there is not much interest in this one. However, NOHS looks to be in the business of believing in themselves this year. Wednesday night will indicate if the Lady Mustangs climbed up to a higher level. Three-horse races are more interesting than when there are fewer contenders.
-
Are the Lady Mustangs quickly becoming "The Little Engine That Could" this season? On one hand, their schedule has been and is light, but on the other hand, their mindset is now such that they believe they can win. One might make a case that Oldham Co. ought to pound North, but it is certainly possible to argue that a Lady Mustang upset of OC might be in the cards. However, the site of the game may play the ultimate role in the outcome, though, and that is certainly in Oldham's favor.

Wow! No comment on whether or not the outcome of this game is an upset. The margin is the shocker. Double wow!!

Col. Mike, I think your second paragraph has the teams listed in a fairly accurate order - as of this moment. In another 24 hours, however, it can shift greatly, and there is not much difference between any of them thus far. It's a girls' b-ball fan's paradise this year in the 8th.

What are the opinions and informal/unnofficial rankings of the BGPrepsters regarding the girls' basketball teams of the 8th region?

In essence, this game will feature youngsters vs. youngsters. They might as well familiarize themselves with each other now, as these players will be locking horns for several seasons to come. Still, there will be a few seniors gracing the hardwood Friday night. The weather factor may indeed play a major role: 1) will teams be able to practice on Thursday with school being out for each team's school district; 2) will both be in/out of school on Friday, and if so, will permission be granted for them to play?

paNDa, very good form and style. Nice Waldo map - excellent and informative for geog-challenged BGPrepsters.

This will be a beat-down by W-V, no doubt about it.

It appears to be the year of the "Cats" - Anderson and W-V.

It looks as though Oldham Co. was held below its season scoring average and South Oldham rose above its season scoring average. However, with 112 total points scored, did the teams play some matador defense in this game?
-
So far this year the final scores seem to show a tendency that the winning teams are putting more points on the scoreboard - especially the bigger schools in the 8th region. Not surprisingly, the losing teams' scoring output are also apparently higher than they have been the last few years.
I'm just wondering why? Why does this trend seem to be occuring? Poorer defense? Better offensive efficiency? Better shooters? More pressing defenses? More wide-open offensive philosphies by region coaches?
Any observations and opinions out there?

:confused:Why so few points in this game? What were the main contributing factors in this very low, 32-30 score?
A) Tenacious, smothering defense?
B) Each team's desire for a down-tempo game?
C) Walk it down the floor offensive style/settle back into a zone defense?
D) A poor shooting night?
E) A very physical game?
F) Combination of of above items?
G) Other reason?

BluegrassPreps is the absolute best! This is the ultimate entertainment and information bargain. Where else can you get such great opinions and insight and somewhat good-spirited banter from a variety of perspectives?

If you're looking for an "anybody can win" type of game, this one definitely seems to be just that. Each team has been consistently inconsistent so far, and it is hard to say which contestant will bring its Jekyll or Hyde side to this Saturday's bash. Anyone out there have any opinions on the outcome of this one?

Amen, Col. Mike regarding the December performances of teams. Ironing out the kinks, testing the waters, experimental lineup combinations, etc. - that is really what December games are all about. January certainly will begin the period of time when the competitive waters become less mirky and less muddy. By the time February rolls around, a somewhat more clear pecking order in the 8th will no doubt be unveiled. Still, my prediction is that NO clear-cut and prohibitive favorite will exist in the 8th region this season. The region tourney will, I predict this early, have some Cinderella plot lines that have yet to be written. Just wait and see ... and you heard it here first!
... HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, BLUEGRASSPREPSTERS - ONE AND ALL!!!

There is more than one way to skin a cat, now. Give Coach Mullins some time to accustom his young group to this new style of play, and whether or not you like the asthetics of this style of play, I'm going to say that the Lady Colonels are going to be just fine - given time. There are some young kids coming up in the OCHS program who will grow up with it and flourish with it. Now whether or not they cut down the 8th region tourney nets with this style remains to be seen, but they are going to be a team that teams are going to have to be uneasy about playing before long. Give it time.

Congrats to Tori! Despite nagging injuries, you have hung in there and worked through them - it's a great accomplishement. Good luck the rest of the way to you and your team.
