  1. Looking at this list causes one to think that there is no tougher region in all Kentucky than the 7th region. By the time the teams gather down in Bowling Green in March, it's difficult to predict who will represent from the 7th, it is so tough. Yes, there are a number of teams around the state several teams capable of winning, but there may be two or three WITHIN the 7th capable of winning it all, too! Wow, what a tough road just to get out of the region!

  2. With less than one full month until district tourney play opens, who is REALLY the boss in the 8th Region - if their is one? Are the Lady Bearcats of Anderson Co. really in command, with all others simply vying for the runner-up spot? What about it? Are W-V, South Oldham, Owen Co. really just pretenders and not contenters, or is this bad-boy another wide-open affair, as it was last year? However, one thing is certain: the town of Warsaw and the Gallatin Co. High School gym will be really busy places come the region tournament!

  3. [It looks as though our meteorologist buddies are up to their old tricks once again, predicting another bout of the frozen white stuff for the next week. What can they be thinking - don't they know that we need to play our basketball games!!!

The various regions of the state have been effected differently by the weather thus far. Can we begin to compile a comprehensive list of games already lost to previous bad weather, plus another list of when those games are to be made up (or if they are going to be made up)? Inquring minds want to know!

  4. Does W-V play Anderson Co. this season - in a "Clash of the Bearcats"? If so, when? If a game is scheduled, it will defintely give 8th region observers a nice game to anticipate. Unfortunately, many of the 8th region teams - especially the larger schools - play too few in-region games, but that may be as a result of the wishes of the smaller "A-schools", which is an understandable scheduling decision, I suppose. Still, the playing of in-region games is an overall benefit for the 8th region, in general, I believe.

  5. 1) Yes, it most definitely is a rivalry game.

    2) It is being played at Oldham Co.

    3) Yes, strange things can happen in these types of rivalry games. The last time these two squared off at OC, the Lady Colonels eeked out a very controversial win in after extra time was put on the clock, and they hit a go-ahead basket after the Lady Dragons had apparently won. This just adds a little spice to tonight's game

  6. Both rating systems use a different formula for evaluating each team's performance, the exact formula for each is a more well-guarded secret than Col. Sanders' recipe of 11 herbs and spices for fried chicken. How they compare is up to individual opinion, I suppose. Still, they make for interesting discussion and great locker room fodder for coaches bent on motivating players. My opinion is that the Cantrell ratings are more accurate regarding teams in the eastern half of the state, as the Herald-Leader is more widely read in those areas; the Lit-Ratings do the same in the western half of the state, as that is dominated by the Courier-Journal. Many may disagree with this, but it's just one person's take on it. It is good that we can look forward to both of them each week during the remainder of the season.

  7. Johnny Wooden, Bobby Knight, Adolph Rupp, Pat Summit, Dean Smith, Denny Crum - you name them - could coach at W-V and many would find fault with them. That said, this list is just to make a point, and no one is comparing any past or present W-V coach with the previously-stated list of coaches. Just saying that of any program over the last few years, the criticism of coaches at this school, on this web site, has been extraordinarily high - more so than at any other I can think of.

Come to think of it, this may be a contributing factor in the frequent W-V coaching turnover the past few years. Why is this? It is not a good reflection on anyone, and it makes outsiders scratch their heads and wonder about the alledged "fans" and "supporters" of the program. Support the coaches and cheer for the kids - be positive and get rid of the venom! That's what adults are supposed to do, not take anonymous pot-shots at coaches who are working hard to help their kids and school.

  8. I doubt they have ever played during the regular season. 15 Minutes appart it should become a regular game.

Since they are playing at Walton the 8th region refs always allow a more physical game. I am for obvious reason in the NDA camp on this game but I look for a good battle. Walton has a nice gym to take pictures so I might be the real winner in this one.

I'll admit to being out of the loop on this one, as don't have much perspective to draw upon. I was unaware that the 8th region is known for being a "more physical" region? Is this a popularly held notion by most observers? Just curious.

  9. Gayheart and Devine are two very nice players for their respective teams, and this is just another example of how evenly they compare with each other over the course of their high school careers. This was a nice win for the Lady Rebs and a notch in their belt as the district picture becomes more clear. Coaches Mefford and Osborne will continue to work and shape their teams well as the season unfolds, and who knows what the outcome might be the next time they square off.

  10. The norm for Kentucky teams goiing to Indiana is an officiating culture shock that invariably benefits the Hoosier team. Touch, ticky-tack interpretations that normally restrict an uptempo flow tothe game. However, when they come over to the Bluegrass, there is normally no such of an advantage to the home team. It seems to often be a win-win situation for the Indiana teams, as they can "get away" with more contact than they are accustomed to having.

  11. Well now, how about another round of hot-topic predictions for thiis district rival affair Friday night at W-V against Simon Kenton? Who is willing to walk the plank, go out on a limb, etc. for this one? My prediction is no prediction at all, in that after watching them play twice last year, I believe this game will be a nail-biter and an entertaining contest for all fans.

  12. Totally agree with you. Coach Miller needs to make line-up changes or he and this team will lose a lot of games because of horrible ball handling and passing. Plus, not to mention that Walton had 4 starters with a total of 2 points. Time to make changes because there is no way you can play 4 players who give you nothing on offense and are a liability on the defense side.

C-mon, now! It's one game into the season, you're playing against an excellent large-school team with arguably the best junior in the Bluegrass, and you lose after playing a good first half. Granted, the outcome may not be what you wanted, but you are already you are telling the coach what he needs to do. What's that all about? How about some perspective? Inhale, take a few deep breaths and count to 10. It's way to early in the season, Tiger, to get carnivorous on any coaches.

I'm fairly confident that the W-V coaching staff - and it's a good crew - has a pretty good feel for what will work best for the squad, and that they will use this well-timed opportunity to gain a great deal from playing a quality opening game opponent. The Lady Bearcats , IF everyone remains physically (and mentally) healthy, will be just fine and have an enjoyable season in 2010-11.

  13. This game is an interesting early match up between two very nice teams from different regions, but don't put too much stock in the outcome and how it will impact each team's region performance. Boone is pretty strong and W-V may be still in a period of adjustment due to roster additons. Throw in some opening night jitters, too, and it should be a good one for b-ball fans to watch.
