1. Panther and Frank James, you guys are fairly new to the BGP and transplanted veterans from another statewide website, right? Your name tags look familiar to me from somewhere else? Regardless, welcome. It's great to have additions from other regions and parts of the state. (FYI- The enlarged font is for my friend so he won't have to get his reading glasses.)

  2. Wow....u mad bro?

Your statement that fields was "out in left field" would seem to indicate that you felt these were his personal rankings, thus the tuturial I tried explaining. Unlike your personal rankings there is no bias towards one team or another. It is simply a mathematical formula used to sort teams.

As far as anderson is concerned, they have 20 point+ victories over dunbar, butler, manual, Lex cath, and franklin co as well as a pair of 10 pt victories over lincoln and etown. Its pretty easy to see why any rankings system would have them that high.

Does that mean anderson is a sure fire lock to win the 8th? Certainly not. But even a biased observer such as yourself would have a hard time.arguing that there is anyone that has a better pre january resume in the 8th then AC.

AC first in the 8th - no argument there from me. There's no disputing that now, especially with Walton's Sandlin injured. AC is the class of the 8th and one of the best teams in the state at this point. I wish them the best. Just saying that ... 1) there are some teams - ones that I mentioned - that MAY well be around during the post season and will also continue to have fine seasons; 2) early season wins are many times as hollow as an easter egg bunny - especially ones in a holiday tournament; and 3) a couple of the teams mentioned as stellar "20+plus victories" during the time I mentioned were against teams not at full strength.

Ummm ... was Dunbar at full strength or still without their injured point guard? or was Manual with all of their regular starters? or Franklin with its healthy starting lineup? E-town is a very young but talented group that is still finding itself through trial and error. Yes, these were eye-poppoing scores, for sure. I was not at the event but have heard from several who were there who indicated that a few of these clubs might not have been at full strength. It will all come out in the wash as the season unfolds, as always. Best of luck to your team and I hope they continue their roll. Hope 2013 is good to you and happy new year.

  3. Its not his personal opinion....it's a mathematical formula that spits out a rating based on scores in games played....similar to the BCS.

Looking at the records and scores of the games this list looks very reasonable Imo

I understand that Mr. Cantrall's is formula ranking, as are the Lit-Ratings, but thanks for the tutorial session. As for being "reasonable," how reasonable one thinks the rankings are subjectively depends upon where his/her team is ranked for most observers (which, I will speculate, likely explains why Anderson's #2 slot seems reasonable to you). Now I have no dog in this fight regarding these particular schools, but I will tell you with confidence that Assumption and Butler (they had an off night against AC after a road game OT win) are certainly better than where they are ranked. As indicated earlier, this stuff sells newspapers and fuels healthy discussions in a forum such as this. Civility and the ability to agree to disagree are good things not common enough in these days and times.

  4. The 8th is Anderson's to lose. Tell me magicfan217, is the 2012-2013 version of Coach Kay's club experiencing the phenomenon known as "addition by subtraction/graduation"? They are having their way with good teams and seem to be on a mission.

Coach Kays is a fine coach who knows what to do and when to do it, and his Lady Bearcats are a good group that has experienced both success and disappointment the past couple of years. They're well on their way to a great year, but it's too early to be at peak performance. There is much time between now and post-season, and for them to do what they ultimately want to do, well, it's not easy to maintain what they have been doing for two more months. However I am sure they want to do just that and will continue to work that end.

  5. Just answering the previous posters question!! Sensitive much????

Ladyhawk, welcome to the premier girls' b-ball website in Kentucky. But if you're a Louisville/Jefferson Co. girls' b-ball enthusiast looking for love and appreciation for 6th and 7th region teams on the BGP, sorry about your luck. My many years have taught me that there is Louisville, and then there is the rest of the state. This is evident almost every year in Diddle.

  6. I could have sworn someone told me Manual could beat boys teams in NKY.

Brossart girls must be REALLY good.

Good things are coming from Brossart this season, no doubt about it. I'm not certain, but I believe the Lady Crimsons may not have their full roster of players for this tournament - for this game and possibly the others. If anyone out there can confirm this, please chime in.

  7. We often hear "yeah but he shoots a lot" when referencing a player who scores a lot. So PPG by itself may not be the best measuring stick.

I was thinking a better measure may be in the area of efficiency. For example, take the total number of points scored and divide it by field goal attempts. It gives you a measure of how many points they score on average every time they shoot.

Thoughts on that measure or better ways to measure?

This is a simple way to evaluate offensive productivity.

points per FGA ratio - plus - assists per turnover ratio = offensive efficiency rating

  8. Didn't Boone just beat NCC? HC and Conner are both undefeated.

The northern KY area teams are similar to the old NFL divisions that used to be nicknamed the "black and blue division." Every year they have knock-down, drag-out games thoughout the season that take the starch out (injuries, etc.) of some very good teams that might possibly do some damage at WKU. It is an annual survival mode just to get out and advance.

And it the spirit of the season - Merry Christmas to all the BGP nation!

  9. Two local teams travel to Lousiville for the weekend to play in what looks to be a very nice tournament. Tournament being played at Dupont Manual and is a 2 and out format.

Ryle played tonight against Butler at 8pm. Highlands plays tomorrow at 6:30 against the Manual/Frankfort winner from tonight.

Looks like a great field. There should be some good games played in downtown Louisville this weekend.

  10. South has a tradition of playing the hand they are dealt, with regard to their roster. No re-deals are "draws" for the Lady Dragons. This may not always result in the best win column, but it is worthy of respect. Not all schools abide by this. 'Nough said.

Thanks, Mr. Viking, you are a scholar! I do believe you are the ONLY one to get it.

  11. I searched, but couldn't really find any solid info on Arlington High School athletics, but I did go to Calpreps. I did a hypothetical match up between Arlington, and a couple of one win and winless teams here in Kentucky. The results? Arlington was wiped out in the projections.

This school has 1,500 students. Before people start blaming Bloomington South, they should probably be blaming and demanding more of a committment to athletics from those in charge (administration).

    :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

    Spot on, HD.

  12. The problem is most of the 8th region posters are from the northern part of the region. The 8th is sandwiched between the two most populated areas of BGP, NKY and L'ville.

Nah, that's not really it. It's just a basketball score, not a standardized test score. Those are the only things - scores - that really matter in that neck of the woods. :sssh:
