  1. .

IMO, they really have several strong individual players. Now, they need to develop a chemistry and play as a team. That freshman class had that in the previous seasons, but now they have to gel with the upperclass players too. Hopefully, this summer will provide that opportunity for them to develop a team style of play. Are any members of the team playing AAU together?
I have seen Fischer playing on a team this summer but no one else.
  2. I tend to agree however the toughness of the guards for Ryle was a question last year and I don't see that changing this year.

I, for one, completely understand the optimism for Boone next season. They will have some talent, but a huge missing piece of the puzzle will be a strong “vocal” leader and a ”go-to” player when the game is on the line. It’s a luxury for that player to be your PG. Bradley took a ton of pressure off of her teammates by being the sole focus of every opponent. They will miss Bowling’s grit and tenacity as well.

Sandlin is a very tough PG. Now that she will draw the opponents focus and best defender night-in and night-out she will have her opportunity to shine. Right now, she is completely one dimensional so her off-season work and development will be critical to her, and the teams, success. She’s training in the right system right now…so if she’s fully teachable…she’ll be fine.

“IF” there are no transfers in or out of the 9th region and all teams remain as expected…I think Ryle is the team to beat in the 33rd district. Also I think NCC, HHS, and Ryle (no particular order) are the teams to beat in the 9th. It’s a bit early, but thought I would toss that in 

  3. FIRST, let me say this post IS NOT directed at you but I am using your post to make a point.

Those expectations have to be realistic, though.

Too many parents think their team and their child is underachieving because they have a bloated, unrealistic view of their child and their child's team.

I had a player once whose father had a view that their daughter was really, really good. He couldn't understand why I wanted her to consider a smaller college in KY rather than push her for Tennessee or Connecticut. He thought that was the level she was. In reality, she was a Alice Lloyd, Berea, Asbury level player.

Now, she was a good player and could of been one of the best to play at our school. But his view of his daughter was totally warped from reality.[/QUOT

I hope the new coach has high expectations as well. What are realistic expectations. No one knows how good they can be if they put the work in. I would much rather have a parent or coach with higher than (so called) realistic expectations, if not than you can't hope to reach them.

  4. :thumb:Good job LBBC, you are making a great deal of sense I believe at least to those of us who aren't close to the situation. Not sure you are going to get anywhere with the ones who are or the ones who have a dog in the fight.
I hear what you are saying. But you have to remember the ones close to the situation know the kind of things that were going on. The ones not close to the situation do not. Although it may not seem the case, a lot of restraint has been shown by those who are close to the situation by not sharing details.
  5. Not to make this personal and I have no reason to doubt what you said but you are a faceless poster on an Internet site and you could easily be right or wrong.

When a coaching candidate is making what could be a life-changing decision, they cannot just take the word of a faceless poster.

I would assume that this would be some of the questions that the candidate would raise in an interview or by asking around with people they may know that are familiar with WV.

    Fair enough.
  6. And this is the exact thing that potential candidates are weighing. Was it warranted or is it simply meddlesome and dissatisfied parents?

Which then has them wondering if it was parents behind the scenes working to get rid of Coach Luebbe who seemed to be successful.

You have to admit, you had one coach who appeared to be having success dismissed by administration then his replacement ran out by the parents, and that would put a huge question mark on the program. And that is unfortunate because it should be a very good job. One I have recommended to my friends to pursue.

But the last coach didn't have administration support in face of success and this coach didn't have parental support.

I just told you it was warranted. I just told you the administration decided to dismiss Coach Luebbe and did a great service to everybody in not going into the reasons for that. The last coach did not earn the support of the parents. Just because your the coach doesn't mean you get a free ride and don't have to earn respect.
  7. Did Coach Luebbe have success?

Did Coach Luebbe's players not go onto success at the next level?

    Explain Coach Luebbe being dismissed.

And absolutely right parents can express dissatisfaction but that is not done in a vacuum with no consequences or perceptions created by them doing so. Add in the point, that coaching candidates are coming in with their history of dealing with parents and many times they see the parents complaining who have an over zealous idea of how good their child actually is. And they wonder if the parents of WV expressing their dissatisfaction is the same or not.

Coach Luebbe was dismissed by the administration. It had nothing to do with parents or fans. Did you read anything on BGP about Coach Luebbe before his dismissal. The answer is no. I agree with you that dissastifaction is not kept in a vacuum and you have to be very careful when you speak up to make sure it's warranted, because we both know there are a lot of times when a parent is just dissatisfied because their child is not getting playing time and they try to start something that isn't there. This was much deeper than that and the dissatisfaction was warranted.

  8. The description on here is not passionate fans but know-it-alls who want to meddle and cause problems for the coach.

Whether it is true or not is not the point but the impression that is being given by this thread.

Coaches in the past who were knowlegable about the game and put forth their best effort had no problems. If the job is not getting done and I'm not just talking about wins and losses there is no reason a parent/fan can't express their dissatisfaction. If it's in the classroom or the basketball court having high expectations is what great schools and athletic programs are made of.

  9. Passion and interest are one thing but it is obvious to me that it goes far beyond that at Walton and that is something that as an outsider sure surprises me. Meddlesome and crossing the line seems to be a huge problem with this job.
I disagree!! As Cats Pride said there is no pattern of a problem here. There was a obvious problem with this coach and the fans spoke up. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's shows that Walton fans care about what happens at their school. I would much rather have it that way than a bunch of fans with no interest. How is pointing out their is a problem crossing the line. If you have low expectations that's exactly what you get.
  10. Wow! Talk about a thread that has become rather tiresome this one certainly has and they have known who their man was going to be all along. So when are they able to announce him so a new thread can start about him and he can hear from all the Walton faithful on how he is to run his program.

If I were a prespective candidate for this job I would be ecstatic about the passion and interest in Girls basketball. You don't find that everywhere.
