  1. Was Georgetown a seperate school system or were they part of the county school system?

Until 1975 it was a separate school system. In 1975 the high schools and the different school districts consolidated.

Most all agreed that a new high school is needed in the near future. Arguments from community and coach's center around the phasing in process and lack of adequate athletic facilities in phase 1. Looks like it's going to be a separate but unequal problem. The current high school doesn't even have (better word would be own) a field that can host varsity games!

  2. Correct Garth was one of the many Grade Schools in SC. When all the Grade Schools consolidated Oxford, Sadieville, Great Crossing, Ed Davis, Garth, etc, two high schools were built, some kids went to SCHS and some kids went to GHS. Most of Garth's kids were districted to Georgetown High School.

The former Garth High School is the current Garth Elementary School.

The former Georgetown High School is the Current Georgetown Middle School.

  3. Scott County will soon be getting a new stand alone school. This school will start as a 750 student high school with the possibility to be a 1500 student high school when phase 2 is complete. The SC Board of Education left it up to the students and community to come up with possible names for the new school....please enjoy some of the suggestions below!

    Georgetown News-Graphic

They asked you for suggested names and mascots for the new, second high school, Scott County, and you answered.

    Boy, did you answer.

Suggestions range from the sublime to the silly, from the historical to the hysterical.

There’s “Dodge Ram High School,” (Not encouraging much volunteer support from our local major manufacturer, that one. But it is offset by “Camry High School.”)

In all, more than 150 suggestions were submitted to the Scott County Board of Education, whose members are pondering the choice. Here are a few of the offerings.

How about “Mockingjay High School?” Although “The Hunger Games” fad may be ending soon.

And, for University of Kentucky fans who have had to endure white and red and “Cardinals” for two decades, there are separate suggestions: “Kentucky Wildcat High School” and “Wildcat High School.”

    Take that, Rick Pitino.

Some folks suggested immodest monikers: “Right Choice High School.” “The Best High School Ever.” “Trend Setter High School.” “Ultra Modern High School.”

Hungry? Maybe you should attend “Peanut Butter and Jelly High.”

Optimistic? The school could be“Where Wishes Come True.”

There were a few suggestions to honor local and state figures: “Everette Varney High School,” “George Lusby High School,” “Ed Davis High School,” “Wendell Ford High School,” “Addison Mitchell McConnell High School,” “Martha Layne Collins High School.”

    And mascots.

    Cats or Killer Bees?

    Maybe Moonshiners, or Pride.

And then there was a suggestion that’s steeped in local history: “Elijah Craig High School.”

Not sure what the mascot would be for that. A tippler, perhaps?

The complete list of suggested names and mascots follows:

  4. Since I've been around here a while, thought I'd share with you guys that yesterday I was offered and accepted a position with Rivals to cover Xavier hoops. Very excited about the opportunity to work at the college and national level with my coverage.

I will still cover nky hoops this season but may not be as vocal in the threads as I have been in previous years. (Probably a good thing lol)

    Congratulations

  5. This might answer some of the concerns.

Case BL-9-2- What specifically is permissible, and not

permissible for basketball players to participate in

after the first day of school?

The following situations would be expressly prohibited:

    (1) Any play involving more than two (2) people at a time where score is kept, either among the players, on a flip scoreboard, digital scoreboard, or using any other device.

    (2) Any play involving a third party acting in the role of a contest official, whether or not the person is a licensed or approved official.

    (3) Any type of play against other players where the teams are selected either prior to arrival or after arrival, by any other method than simple player selection by the players themselves.

    (4) Any play at any event where school funds are expended for participation fees, travel or any other expense, including fees paid by booster organizations or any member of the coaching staff.

    (5) Any play where future play is predicated by the outcome of other play at or preceding the event.

    (6) Any play at which players where school team identifying apparel of any type.

The following situations would be permitted:

    (1) Activity such as individual play or skill development or technique drills where neither score nor time are kept and future play is not predicated by results of other play.

    (2) “Pick-up” type of action initiated solely by players, and with no coaches, event organizers, promoters of event sponsors having any involvement in the activity whatsoever.

    (3) Any individual instructional activity fully funded by the student participants at his/her own expense.

No. 2 on permitted scenarios could make the pickup games Walter setup as illegal. Walter, not the players, set it up and Walter could be considered an event organizer.

I think it's stupid, but that's way I would read it.

  6. Common thread ... Parents didn't move.

Although Haddix was not Ineligible until Scott County senior year but that was because he played 4 years already after finishing 8th grade. Repeat of 8th grade was ruled first high school years. That's why no move transfers can occur before 8th grade.

The Scott county kid you may have been thinking about is Tanner Shotwe from Lexington Christian to Scotf County. His family never moved.

If you move with your parents you will be ruled eligible.

  7. Rhodes has a big-vision dream for the small school. He sees Cordia possibly becoming the next Oak Hill Academy, the nationally famous Virginia prep school that routinely attracts some of the country's best basketball players to a remote locale.

Read more here: Ex-Cat Rhodes feels at home coaching in tiny Cordia, Ky. | Basketball: Men | Kentucky.com

Then they should withdraw from the KHSAA and play a prep schedule. Nobody would complain then.

  8. Spindoc ... I like that thought. I am in favor of either sit out a year or be eligible right away ... One or the other. But 1 free transfer is not bad either. It would definitely eliminate a Cunningham situation of 3 different high schools.

So is his older brother Trey going to be a part of Rhodes coaching staff?

  9. Expect some changes for the July period. There's gonna be the new team formed for 17u coached by josh maxey and myself. Some players will switch teams. Teams will add new players. There is always a shake up in AAU ball during July.

I didn't hear any noise about this. Did this team come to fruition? If so, how did you do?

  10. Scott Co

Pg Matt Walls or Chad Jackson

    2g Bud Mackey

    3f GeLawn Guyn

    4f Richie Phares

    5c Jared Carter

Bench. Rodney Haddix, Dakota Euton, Jordan Lee, Quinn Richardson, Austin Flannary, Trent Gilbert.

Off the top of my head.

    PG - Mackey

    SG - Walls

    SF - Manning

    PF - Jackson

    C - Phares

Scott County has had better players, but if I was putting together a "team" I would take this one. Put these guys in Hicks' run-and-jump and it would be fun to watch.

  11. Central KY Warriors (with Green Grundy Cunningham etc) finished 2nd and 3rd in back to back years in 8u (I believe it was the first ever championship at that age group) and 9u division 1. Not sure which year they finished higher but had a nice 2 year run.

Georgetown Thunder (made up of kids that just graduated hogh school) was runner up in D2 nationals as a 10u team.
