Sounds like the coaches were spreading the wealth a little. Congrats to Sorrell on a great year.

There were at least 3 incorrect calls against Holmes during the game as well... Pittman's block (on Maile?...could have been someone else) in which his arms were actually over top the ball in a palming motion... Horrible call. Also, let's not forget the two and-1's in the 4th that were called on the floor. Two more horrible calls.
In the end, it evened out IMO. However, this whole notion of make-up calls just really grinds my gears (channeling Peter Griggin, lol). If you see a foul, call it. Do not keep this tally in the back of your head of calls that you have missed. Make-up calls can turn into a vicious cycle and ruin a game's flow. Another issue I have is the "late" call. Call the foul when it happens! Not after the ball-handler has missed the layup or jumper. A perfect example was the call on Pittman. He got all ball, but two seconds earlier Ricardo Johnson bodied the CovCath player on his way up. The ref decided the bump from Johnson was a foul after Pittman's made the clean block. In an effort to right his wrong, he called the foul on Pittman as it was too late to call the body. I realize these are bang-bang situations, but I know the refs can do better.

I like the way you think JoeJoe, but while Mason, LexCath, and Jtown might be the top ranked teams at the sweet 16 (which actually I think UHA might have something to say about being discluded in favor of Jtown), they are not the top 3 teams in the state...
I hope you are right about UHA. I would love to see them upset LexCath in that first round matchup. Such a shame I have to work during the day on Wednesday, that game could be a classic.

All I did was give my assessment as I see the tournament playing out. I could be wrong, but it was my assessment. What exactly is wrong with that?
Actually, nothing wrong with it at all. I just believe in our boyz and wanted to take their back. :thumb:

Holmes will beat Bardstown pretty easily (10-15 point range). If Bardstown doesn't rebound with the Dogs, it'll be worse.
That said, for those considering Holmes a "serious" threat to win the state title, the chances are slim and none...And, I think I just saw slim slipping out the back door.
Holmes is good, and it would surprise me, but not shock, to see them pull an upset and reach the finals. It would also surprise me, but not shock me, if the Bulldogs lost on Friday. They are good, not good enough to go 4-0 against this field though.
When the final ratings come out before the tounament, LexCath, Mason and J-Town will likely be 1,2 and 3 in the sweet 16. This does consume my thoughts because I know how tough it would be for Holmes to beat the top 3 teams in the state within 36 hours. However, its definitely a possibility and they actually have a better chance than last year IMO. March is all about faith and you sir, need to get some. No one from NKY wants to see a post like this right now. We want to believe in a team that is 31-2 and 8 points away from being 33-0. We want to believe in a team that has been to the Sweet 16 three of the last four years. Mostly, we just want to believe our team can cut down the nets.
What we don't want, is your posts discounting our chances before the tourney starts.:fight:
*sorry if I was too harsh here... Just pumped about the dawgs;)

Great post but couldn't that have been said in the CCH-Holmes poll thread? lol
LOL, yeah my bad. Still going through my BGP growing pains.
Go Dawgs:ylsuper:

Who cares about the cheering section?!?!? I just want to see the best team in Lexington. That team is Covington Holmes.
We got many of the old Bulldogs coming out tonight. Their won't be any synchronized cheers, but we will be loud dammit! :-)
I will admit that it is awesome to watch those CovCath kids though... Straight hilarious cheers.
-
CovCath loves to penetrate and kick for three. Holmes loves to attack the paint. I think we can all agree on this. The team that will win tonight, will have to make their opponent respect the weak part of their game. We will learn a lot in the first quarter...
If CovCath can make Holmes respect the drive and suck in defenders on penetration...and make shots...CovCath will find themselves in Lexington next Wednesday.
If Holmes can make CovCath respect the outside shot, it will open up the the entire offense for the Bulldogs. This could ultimately lead to a 10-15 point victory. The fact that Jamel Riley went 5-5 from the arch last night may be on the minds of CovCath defenders. We shall see.
Basically what I am saying is... The team that excels at their weakness in the early going will likely win the game. Who will dictate tempo? We'll know this answer by about 7:15.

Of course, its Holmes. However, I do feel that either team would make Northern KY proud. The Bulldogs just have the best chance winning a title. Do I think they will? Probably not. Do they have a puncher's chance? Absolutely.
-
The pace seems to be favoring Holmes, but being only up 1 and shooting 62% definitely concerns me.
-
I'd love to see the Bulldogs get Scott County in a rematch of last year's semis. Its payback time!
-
Wow, #4 in the state... Its all comin' together boyz!
-
The only team that can stop Holmes from being 32-1 and on the bus to Lexington is CovCath, IMO. I expect the Bulldogs to see two more very tough games from the Colonels.
-
Ricardo Johnson hasn't been contacted by any Division I schools yet.
Arrez has talked to North Alabama, VCU and Louisville. Division II NKU and Southern Indiana have also talked with Henderson.
-
What position does he play? 2? Does he shoot well enough? Does he handle the ball well enough? Those would be the only things keeping him from receiving offers.
Both good points, but I think if a D-1 school is recruiting Arrez... They are looking for a defensive stopper. I'd love to see Henderson matchup with some of the top players in the state during the Sweet 16. (I know, the Bulldogs have to make it there first) He could possibly write his own ticket if he can hold his own. I for one, believe that he can.
-
There's a big difference between interest and offers! Some boys will get a 100 letters of interest but wind up with no offers.
Very true. Any school that doesn't offer just because of Arrez's size will be making a big mistake though... IMVHO.
-
I understand to an extent, but that was the first thought that went through my mind.
I don't think even Holmes knew how good this team would be. The Johnson brothers transferred late summer last year... And they lost 70% of their scoring from the season prior. When the schedule was made, I'm sure these were factors.
This is a very speculative post on my part. I don't have any info on why the out of conference schedule was so weak. However, eventually they will play some of the top teams in the state this season ;-)

Last year's team might have been more talented... But this '08 team has a much better chance to win at all. Here are all the reasons I believe this is true:
--The top contenders for the sweet 16 have come back to the field. I think we can all agree that Scott County was one of the best teams this state has seen for many, many years. I mean, they beat Huntington while they were number 1 in the Nation for pete's sake. Let's not forget that 3 of the top 5 teams in the state come from Region 11 (Lex Cath, Bryan Station and Scott County). Two of those big boys will be gone before the Sweet 16.
--Defense Yes, I know Holmes played great D last year as well. I watched them from the 9th Region all the way thru the semis and they played unbelievable half court man to man. The problem last year was that they were only 7 deep at best and couldn't extend the defense. Now they go 10-11 deep and pickup full court man. Teams have to work incredibly hard just to get into their sets now. Whereas last year, they would be able to walk it up the floor. An off night can still be an easy win when you can guard like this team does.
--Discipline I watched Duran Jefferson curse out his entire coaching staff after he fouled out early in the second half of the Scott County game. Which was especially sad, since his last two fouls were a combined 150 feet from the basket. You won't see these types of things from this year's team. Arrez is the leader of this team and sets a great example from his work ethic and respect for the coaches. Ryan Ernst used the headline "Henderson and Company" earlier this season. I was told by a member of the Holmes staff that this couldn't have been stated better.
--Unselfishness I honestly believe Arrez could score 2 points and be happy as long as he played great D and his team won. The entire team feeds off of this. You rarely see this type of unselfishness at this level. Henley and his staff have this team programmed to think about guarding their man first. This translates to the offensive end because the Bulldogs only take whats given to them. They do not force shots. If anything, they pass too much at times.
I just hope that Holmes can knock off CovCath in the 9th Region Final. CovCath always finds a way to give Holmes a good game and I expect another close one in March. After that, it will all depend on the draw. If Mason and Holmes are on opposite sides of the bracket... I could see them in the State Championship.
I am a Holmes grad and I may be a little crazy... But I really feel this is the best shot Holmes has had at a title since '90.
-
Coach Henley said that Arrez Henderson is "getting some sniffs" from Division I. Western Kentucky and Dayton are among the schools reported to have contacted him. Henderson has a 23 on the ACT, so scores and grades are there for this outstanding young man.
-
Arrez is a supberb athlete but an even better teammate. I don' think people realize what kind of young man we are getting to see play. This young man plays the game with a passion and intensity that young people can only dream of. Wherever Arrez decides to play at the next level, that program will be getting nothing short of an A+ quality of a young man. He plays the game with a love and passion that is hard to come by in today's society.
-
IF being shut down by Arrez forbids you from being at the top of the list, we'd have no list
Now that is one hell of a post! :dancingpa

Haven't seen Holmes play yet... But from what I've read and heard from a member of the coaching staff... This team could be better than last year. They are deeper and actually pickup full court man. That kind of pressure just can't be simulated in practice and HC will have a very tough time dealing with it.

By the end of the '09 season, Holmes will have completed a run of five out of six 9th region crowns... IMO.
