I think Holmes is a very good team but I don't care how good their defense is playing they will need to at least score in the 60s to make a run at the state title. Scoring 40 points a game will not get it done.
I wouldn't get too caught up in how many points they score. They'll score when tempo dictates it. Its the DEFENSE, that will win a championship for Holmes.

I had the best view in the building on the foul on Pittman. It should have been an intentional.
In regard to the dunk... Johnson just missed the layup off to the side because he was a little out of control. Pittman's slam proved to be the turning point for the Holmes victory.

I sat under the basket and I can honestly say, I don't know how anyone can score on Holmes when they are guarding like that. Its intimidating to even watch. They may have only won by seven, but that seven might has well have been 30. I see why they win all these 50-40 type games. If they can get hot from the perimeter, they could definitely take home their first state title.

That is great news... I always knew Rice could be a sick guard. His handle was real nice, just needed some nurturing. He found a great program that let him grow as a guard in Columbus State. I believe he may have had some early struggles, but busted out with a 26 point performance in the Championship game last season.
I think Austin Hill's Southeastern Illinois squad is ranked 2nd in the nation as well. Pretty cool stuff out of the men who paved the way for Holmes to be a state power again.
I can't wait to watch Greg Rice play some D-1 ball.

Yes, you definitely goto the NIT. The data below provides all the reasoning that UK needs:
NCAA All-Time Wins as of March 2nd, 2008:
1. Kentucky - 1985
2. North Carolina - 1975

I was just looking at Highlands' roster... Do they really not have one senior? If so, that is amazing. They will be one hell of a team next year. They will win this game in a nail-biter...
Highlands 66
St. Henry 62

Grant County 66, Owen 57

Great draw for the Bulldogs. I'm getting so pumped about another state run. UK can keep sucking for all I care, so as long as Holmes keeps winning in the postseason.

Rich Shumate has done a hell of a job and this may be the best Beechwood team I have ever seen. Having said that, I think this shows just how tough Holmes is when they guard. The fact that the all-district team and tourney mvp did not include Rico or Pittman tells me that this team is peaking at the right time, just like the last two seasons. I really believe this is the year Bulldog Tech cuts down the nets.

tezzyrice... I thought his last name was Arnold?

I'm tellin' ya, I believe in this Grant County squad. They've had 7 different players record a game high in points this season. They can beat you in several different ways.
On the flip side, without a goto man... They have been beat by some teams that should have never been in the game with them. I like how they are playing now though and will take GC over SK, 66-53.

It was the first round of the regional. Tim Sullivan was a starter, along with Evans, Humphrey, Rice, and ?
Yup, first round of Regional. Other starter was Tony Jarmon and Fred Conrad was the sixth man.
Before Holy Cross pulled that stunner, NewCath almost pulled off the greatest District Tourney upset when Holmes beat them by one, 56-55 (I think). You'd think Holmes would have learned there lesson from that game, but they didn't.

Sounds like the Henry Clay team might be a serious contender in '10 and '11.

It really is a great story. Regardless of how Holmes does, I will be watching Elliott in Rupp. If they play in the semis, at least I'll know I have someone to root for in the Final for the second straight year.
-
I knew it... I called this last week. I'm so happy for Tim and his players. Wish I could have been there for that special moment.
-
Give me a break... We all know that Holmes is the real favorite. Personally though, I'm glad Holmes is 2nd in the poll. If they can convince themselves that they are underdogs, maybe they will play with the fire and intensity they brought to the state tournament the last two seasons. Hopefully that starts tonight.

I agree with Scott in the 10th. It would be amazing to see Holmes vs. Scott in the Sweet 16 Semifinal.

Grant County on their homecourt in a shocker. The Braves make their first trip down state in 30 years and honor the '79 squad.
-
Richie Phares with Sanford a close 2nd.

I think there's usually more than one POY. Pretty sure there's a POY for each division, a coaches POY, and then a 9th region POY that is recognized at Rupp.
That's true... And typically you don't see the same player getting each award. At least not in recent years. It seems like they try to spread them around to the top players in the region.
-
I'll be honest... This game worries me. I obviously don't think Holmes will lose, but I have seen HC shock the world before.
Its hard to believe that you can go 27-2 and get rewarded by playing your rival on their home floor in the first round of the tourney. I guess Thats the beauty and the agony of Kentucky high school hoops.

Dude needs to update his formula. His ratings make the BCS look like E=mc2

Definitely an impressive win for Scott County. I have been watching highlights of them online and they are playing great ball right now. Even though Holmes got them in December, they are the CLEAR favorite to cut down the nets.
From a Bulldog alum....that was tough to type.

I hope Sunday and Tuesday bring a packed house. Seeing those pics with all the empty seats in the background takes something away from the moment.
