Maybe Coach Suboticki should put in a resume?
-
Doublechecked info....no Hatcher application at Russell...bad informant...my fault.
-
I hope he stays...I wanna see the guy lose a 4th time...
I hope Ellington foolishly leaves...Lawson too...
-
Kansas doesn't box out extremely well...which could hurt when Memphis' athletes come leaping through...but Kansas is just better all around...i believe that Brandon rush will win the matchup between he and CDR...I say Kansas in a classic
-
Hatcher had applied at Russell as well so I'm told...and I agree with the Duckster that Dodd is the supposed lead candidate at Greenup...so who knows...I'm sure Fraley and Smith will be highly considered as well for GCHS...
-
FYI- I was talking HS coaches since this is a HS forum...
Kelvin Sampson!
-
At least if Greenup or Russell get Pete Bell, the players will be taken care of!
"Now I never asked for anything, I just told 'em what I needed."
-
I don't know if they love GC ball...well maybe Fraley...but why would they leave last year?
Dodd was coming off 2 great years and Fraley had 2 D-1 guys on his team. When you're out of a job (or at least down on your luck in Fraley's case) you'll love just about anyone. How can you go wrong at Greenup? Can't do worse than the last 2 head coaches they've had, can you? So it's no wonder there is so much interest from any and all.

Others:
Jim Boeheim (SP?), Syracuse
Jamie Dixon, Pitt
Bo Ryan, Wisconsin
Billy D, Florida (Back to back titles and no love?)
Jim Calhoun, UConn (2 Titles and no love?)
-
A new way to look at things. We always talk about who will get what job and why, but who do you think is the Best Coach on the market?
(Note: Please use only varsity-experienced coaches-J.V. guys are unproven.)

Coupon, Coach Smith was 4-2 in 06-07 and 4-11 in 07-08...that's 8-13 overall, which considering that he basically took over in the middle of a year, twice, with barely implementing any of his system, also without the benefit of a pre-season to prepare a team for the season, I'd say he's over-achieved considering the pressure and adversity that Greenup County basketball has been under...I'd doubt if anyone could have handle these circumstances with any greater success....Makes sense to give him the program and remove the Interim tag, and let him see what he can do with an entire season and under "NORMAL" circumstances...
Second, Coach Smith coached GC to a 29 point win vs. Lewis Co. in the regular season in 06-07...Coach Sutton led the Muskies to a 14 point defeat against that same Lewis Co. bunch in the first round of the district about a month later...numbers don't lie....per KHSAA website.
Third...all this talk of Coach Dodd is amazing...sure he has a nice resume (so did Jim Hicks and Chad Leach), but why is he no longer at Russell? Does Greenup Co. want Russell's cast-aways...seems he doesn't have a great track record "building programs" and that is not what GC needs with all it's young talent coming up. If it wasn't for the transfers of Vanhoose, Blair, and Austin ??? He hasn't developed one decent class of Russell kids...just my thoughts.
Again...why would GC not give Coach Smith the opportunity? He's a GC guy who has been there through thick and thin and will continue to do so (Going outside the last three times: Cooksey, Hicks, and Leach hasn't panned out to well, has it?). Just think, it's been 8 years since Coach Ward left and they have gone through 3 coaches. Don't you think it's a good idea to give it to a Greenup County guy? It would be a shame to loose Coach Smith as a coach and a teacher if he decides to persue other opportunities.
Just in reference to the 29 pt. Smith win in the regular season and the Sutton 14 pt. win in the 1st round of the district: Don't you think Mr. March's team probably played a little better and with everything to lose in the district?
Just that Sutton could get that game with the "pressure" and "circumstances" should speak volumes about his coaching abilities. He's underrated in this conversation as far as I'm concerned, although I do think Smith or Fraley would seem to be a good choice at GCHS.

GC vs Russell could be real, real interesting next year. Maybe this will bring this Rivalry to an even more heated match up.
Isn't it great to see potentially new bad blood in good rivalries?!
I agree with you completely that new faces in new places could add some serious spice! Gotta love it!

Isn't it true, in sports especially, that when you have to stand up and announce that you aren't going anywhere and are happy, and this doesn't apply only to Floyd, that there is reason you have to say that? Just curious...
-
Fact: Ward isn't coming back. Great coach, great success, but it just isn't in the cards people.
Fact2:Greenup is in a rut and they haven't pulled the trigger on the right guy yet to coach that team. Not saying they've hired bad coaches, just bad fits.
Until they find the right person for the job, it will be, as Steven Tyler sang, "Same old story, same old song and dance."
The word on the street (at least my street) is that Dodd is the lead dog at this point, but there are quite a few applicants. Good Luck to all those!

Yes...this is a legit siuation as far as i know...im glad he chose to listen to his son..thats just good parenting!...good luck to them all!!

Congrats to Rowan and Ashland for a great game. Another break for Rowan-with the Girl's state tourny being pushed back a day, they now play at noon instead of 8 a.m. After a cross-state trek, that is a favorable break.
Good Luck Girls!
My fault on posting bad game time....was told they were to play at 8....sorry guys!

Although I do not condone the kinds of actions Mackey is accused of, I do not think it is above someone to give a second chance to a kid. He's in high school, he's a top rated athlete, which in today's world means you are a superstar. People will give you the world in this instance. So he apparently screwed up. Are we to hold that against him forever? That's just a shame that the public can't get past the fact that a kid made a mistake and now want to bury him under that forever. Isn't this the Bible belt? Forgive and forget!
-
You confirmed this with anyone GT ?
It was posted on Catspause.com earlier. Love this kid's skill set. Heard he was a more athletic version of Jasper(pre-injury). BCG stockpiling baby!

Greenup in the late 90's were great teams. Farrow, McConnell, Meadows, Large (pre-transfer), J. Tackett., A. Tackett, N. Sutton, Griffith. Solid. Always tough to beat no matter who you were.
-
Rowan in a close one. By 4.
-
Anyone remember the movie "The Fabulous Baker Boys"? Fitting title for this East team.
-
Noone who has ever won 10 or more games in SEC play has been shut out. SEC, according to ESPN guys, was 4th best conference this year. Not too shabby. Simple- We win 1 more, and we are a sure shot. Lose our next 2, and it's time to get on the horn to the big guy upstairs for some help.
GO CATS!

Greenup Co. doesn,t need Ward back but it is obvious there needs to be some changes. Have some really good ones coming on-Tackett , Williams, Justice, Litchum
Ward comment was made tongue-in-cheek. It'd just be fun to have him back around sometimes.
Great College players...Not so great in NBA
