  1. Probably a combination of a few things. The new coach is a total opposite of in regards to personality and philosophy than Reinhart which probably didn't mesh well for a few boys, lack of commitment from the school to the program (see theater, losing practice field, not having or even consider having a coach in the building,) and the fact that there are a lot of boys at Brossart not interested in playing football. I know moving to 2A hurt a little, but those first 2 years there was around 30 boys on the team...last year what 18? 20?

  2. Curious to know from an insider how the relationship with the team and their new coach was.

From what I have heard it's not looking good for the mustangs. After struggling with numbers last year I was told there was a meeting held for boys interested in playing football next season; only 8 showed up. I also hear that winter weights were cancelled due to only 4 boys showing up regularly.

  3. Until Cooper can find a way to stop the run they are going to have a hard time winning. Hard to put many points on the board when you only have like 5 possessions in a game. Defense needs to cause more 3 and outs and get more turnovers. Mistakes are still killing Cooper. Turnover on the 3 yard line. Bad coaching decision to kick the ball to Campbell County with 4 minutes left eliminated any chance to win the game.

Cooper had 4 minutes and two timeouts. That's plenty of time.

  4. Just when I thought I would never agree with anything you say, I find myself saying you are right on here. Cooper can not continue to play the same 14 to 15 kids for four quarters and expect to be alive for a fourth quarter flurry. The boys up front are just too gasses and the lone running back who also plays ML has lost more than just a step by that time. If the jags can jump on SK early and hold on, they have a better chance.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the only lineman that goes both ways is #50 I believe. They were also playing another running back... Not sure what his number was but he was a small quick kid.

Boone, Campbell, and now SK all have very big offensive lines. Cooper does not. I have noticed that you are all for Cooper platooning. Who would you replace and with who would you replace them? From what I have heard the junior class is less than impressive are you going to put more sophomores in there over kids who have been in the system for 3 years now? This isn't pee wee football or even freshman or JV ball for the matter. Varsity football the best kids see the field. It's how it was when I played, it's how it was when my father played, and I'm sure that's how it's going to be.

As a family member of someone on the team I know that this staff always puts the kids giving the best effort on the field. I'm not sure if you're just a disgruntled parent or what... but maybe you should take matters up with the head coach. You seem to have a lot of good ideas that I'm sure they would be willing to use.

I just can't seem to question a group of coaches who in 5 years took a team from new school to state. Must just be Hellbird and myself though.

  5. You can count all the numbers you want of boys "walking the hallways". Bottom line is this, once Coach Borchers posts the summer practice schedule 80% of said "boys walking the hallways" disappear like Casper the Friendly Ghost. Cooper will most likely continue to be non-platooning team for a few more years to come. Having a large number of boys in the school means nothing if you are not committed and dedicated to "work". Keep in mind this school is only in it's 6th year and while last year's run was more than anyone could have ever imagined that was a special group of which that put in the work and everyone knew this year's team had an up hill challenge ahead of them.

I fully expect this year's group, and next year's for that matter, to compete but achieving that benchmark of last year may not come until two more years from now when the sophomores and freshman are seniors and juniors. The middle school program is in it's 3rd year and there will be some residual benefit of for those players who are running the same system that the varsity is running at an early age as well.

This year's team is young, inexperienced and frankly only 3 players, that started or played significantly last year, are playing/starting in the same postion as last year. Not an excuse as it is what it is but you can't replace experience at the flip of a switch. The young one's will get baptized quickly.

It's the oldest cliche in the book but is very true when it comes to football. "If it were easy, everyone would do it."

  6. Are you sure about right now? They are bigger than Scott, Franklin County, East Jessamine, John Hardin, and Warren Central according to last years numbers. Also, it was Borchers( or the old AD) who petitioned to play up into 5A and it looks like a good move now.

I think overall school numbers would put them there. I could be very wrong though.

  7. What does Public School vs. Private got to do with it? A lot of parents like Hellbird want to believe that their kids are just so much better than the other 40 kids and should be playing both ways. It's simply not true. Every team has top talent, but its the ones that figure out how to get the most out of the just above average players that Win. I'll take a fresh average talent player over a tired, over-played stud any day. I'm not really talking about full platooning necessarily, but more minimizing the number of players that go both ways and especially how much time they play both.

From the thread that VOR started I am learning that full platooning is certainly the exception, but I have to believe that there are very teams in 5A and 6A that are playing more than a few players two ways. Even the best small school programs minimize full-time two-way starters.

Has a lot to do with it. Public schools have classes that come in waves. You will get exceptionally good classes some years, and then a few years later you don't have as much talent. It happens. Private schools are at an advantage in they can replenish easier than a public school when they do not have district restrictions and what not.

  8. There is no way a 5A school should have that many players going both ways. IMO, they shouldn't have any. Kids will step up. It's short-sided of the coach to place everything in the hands of a few athletes. You don't wait until you have the so-called "Athletes" to do it. If you spread the athelticism out and fill-in with less experienced its better than wearing out your athletes. Injuries will be less damaging as well.

If you had that last year, then its very impressive that you made it as far as you did.

It's public school football. Just because you have 50 athletes on the team, it doesn't mean they are all in fact athletes.

  9. I understand completely and I think that is the right way to go about it. However, it was the talk of the Cooper fans and it is my job to report on that talk.

Oh I know it is. Trust me I've heard it too and if this kid is transferring in, wow. I'm sure any coach is going to be thrilled about a kid coming into their program that is going on visits to Auburn and NC.

  10. Are you saying it is only a rumor?

I've known Coach Borchers for a long time now and he's a smart guy. He won't say a thing about a transfer, get excited about a transfer, or worry about a transfer until that kids paperwork is filled out, he's officially enrolled, and he is standing on the field in pads. Until then, he worries about what he has to work with in front of him.

  11. Do not sleep on this Cooper team. While they did lose some great playmakers, they return a lot of players who can make an impact. Coach Borchers not only does a great job of getting the most out of his athletes but his assistants as well. This in turn makes for better assistants and kids that are better prepared. Borchers is a coach that grades you as how good he knows you can be and not on how good you are. Cooper will be competitive and do just fine this year.

  12. I have not seen the Bengals schedule this year, but every time they make the playoffs they were the beneficiary of some very weak scheduling. In fact, they have made the playoffs without beating a another playoff team.

I know they play the Patriots this year, and since they were a playoff team last year, their schedule will be a lot tougher. I would not pencil them in as a playoff team just yet.

I believe they also have to play the NFC north so you would have to include Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, and Detroit. With three teams in the NFC north you've got over 30 wins last season.

  13. True, Jesus did sit and eat with the sinners at His time. The thing that is always overlooked is that it is understood that those sinners were reconciled to Jesus and were commited to doing their best as humanly possible to turn away from their sinful ways and to follow Christ. If anyone had refused to repent of their past and had every intention of continuing their prior ways, my guess is He would have gently informed them that by THEIR choice (not His) they are not part of His flock but are always welcome back should they change their mind. The church is similar. ALL are welcome to attend church in the hopes that they will be reconciled but until they are reconciled, they cannot fully participate in the flock.

A friend of mine once told me that the church has never once excommunicated someone. I gave him a confused look. He then replied that the church has only informed people that they have excommunicated themselves. That made sense to me.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. Jesus preformed many miracles for people who never deserved it. At the passover dinner, Jesus sat with Judas. A man who he knew was going to betray him and never once did he tell him to get up and leave. He sat with Peter who he knew was going to deny him 3 times, and never told him to leave. While on the cross, dying Jesus begged for forgiveness of those killing him because they knew not what they were doing. It seems to me that today a lot of churches are changing things from the way they were meant. Communion was meant to celebrate what Jesus gave up for all of humanity, so we could all be forgiven of our sins. It was not to be used as a power play by the church to allow non-members to have. When people made mistakes or sinned, Jesus embraced them and showed them ways to get better. He did not turn his back and exclude.

Another reason why this doesn't make sense that OP was barred from communion. If I read correctly he really is indifferent to the whole gay marriage thing and because of that he is not allowed to take communion. What of the story Jesus had when the Pharisee wanted Jesus to cast the first stone on the prostitute. He who is without sin can cast the first stone. I know I'm not without sin so I'm not passing judgement on anyone. That's not my job while I'm here on earth. My job is to do what I can to get people to find their path, or their calling not try and turn them from God. It's God who will be the judge and I will do my best to help people see that while I may not agree with what they are doing I will not judge them or condemn them but rather pray to help God have them find their way.

  14. Wow talk about timing. I am a member of 7 hills church right off of Turfway and our Easter service was about communion. Main message was that if Jesus himself sat with sinners and claimed in the bible that he was here to save the sinners, why would he exclude them. The way I see it if Jesus can sit with the sinners and share a meal with sinners or the "unworthy" so can I. The church has no right to say you can't sit at God's table when Jesus purpose on earth was to bring people to God.

  15. "Defend the man?" No need to defend - it is what it is. Where does my info come from? From the Coach himself - where does your info come from? Let me guess - the internet.

I guess Highlands fans must be more nervous than I thought by continuing to perpetuate a rumor like this.

Yea no way a coach is ever going to tell someone in the community he is applying for another job.

  16. Fair question. Yes, I started both ways for Beechwood all three years of high school. I was the only sophomore starter my sophomore year, my junior year we won the state championship and I hardly ever came off the field, and my senior year I was Team Co-MVP (along with my best friend Matt Bohmer), and I was also named player of the year in my conference. And for the record we spanked spindoc's team.

We played for a very ethical, honest coach (Bernie Barre) and we never talked about such things. Even if we would have (like you) high school chatter is just that and not a real big deal in my opinion. However, we had the Super Bowl MVP on the NFL's largest stage seriously talking about cheating to gain an advantage in the multi-billion dollar business that is the NFL.

Flacco needs to have his pee pee slapped by the league.

Haha that comment was hilarious. Kudos to you.
