If you attend a middle school, of course barring change of residence, that should be your high school.
I think this is where the true recruiting takes place. Selection of high school.......sounds a little like college.

So in other words all but 71 are on need based financial asssistance?
Are you kidding me? What this says is all but 71 struggle to feed their kids, not to mention tuition to come to a school. This type of thinking is what adds fuel to the fire in discussion. I hear the private say that we pay double in tuition so it works out to a wash...you have free education so you can't complain.......and now our need to feed children is consider financial aid? Stop with the comparisons...they are two totally different educational institutions with different policies and guidelines, that create sports advantages.
-
Do you know the exact dollar amount that they would pay?
Would that amount be less than/greater than/equal to what students at Private Schools who recive some/maximum/no tuition assistance pay?
Is is against the law for Bell County to offer Tuition Assistance?
The $ amount is a non-issue. Look at our area vs yours so with that said the money would be about the same. Out of 374 students at my sons grade school 71 are not on free and reduced lunch.

Look up one, I edited.

So are you saying that Bell Co. DOES have Out of State Sudents? If so, is there a reciprocal agreement in place, or do those students have to pay tuition?
Sure, we have never said that we do not accept out of district students and they are out of district. They pay tuition. The principal and many of the teachers live in TN.
This is where financial aid comes in. They get no help and need it more than many. Not just because they are from Tn. but this area in general.

What would this do for Ft.Campbell? They live in Tn. and the post office is in KY??

I really get tired of the KHSAA and others that try to "compromise" with alternative suggestions. What they are doing is trying to deflect the real issues and dodge what really needs to be done. They need to address this and put it to rest, instead they want the state to think about an out-of-state kid taking the place of one of our own. If ours is better, he will play. Just address the real issues in the debate. I don't see where out of state has anything to do with public/private issue.
If there is a split then maybe the out of state issue will be address, I just think that they want to put the cart before the horse.
-
We too would have more defined boundries and therefore could not accept the out of state students for athletics.
That is why I too like the idea of open / closed. It would make the split. We would give this up.
-
There is no comprimise outside of seperation, please don't think that I suggest one. Wether it is called open/ closed , public/ private or whatever they are to different to remain together. Hiding this fact in out of state students is a joke.
How can you say that just one side would give something up...it obvious that both would. You clearly state that.

Proposal 3 sent back to KHSAA
The proposal that would have made out of state students ineligible to play in Kentucky has been sent back to the KHSAA by a unanimous vote of the KBOE.
Interesting points in the article:
and
We all know this is part of the public/private debate. What I find very interesting is that just like in other "compromises" the publics want to place some limitation on private schools (feeder schools, defined attendance areas, out of state students) while granting exceptions to public schools that do the same thing under the cover or "reciprocal agreements". Someone please explain to me how it's a compromise if only one side is giving anything up.
I quoted the Bell County super to illustrate how some on the public side may give lip service to wanting change but stop short of supporting a change when they find their own ox being gored.
I will help you understand. At this time NOTHING has been done to even suggest a split will happen in the near future. So with this why would the publics do anything to furthur disadvantage themselves. I can assure you that if there were a split in the near future that this public would also give up this type attitude. So in other words I would like to remind you that when private argue that publics would give up nothing they are mistaken. Also, I do believe that this brings us back to the financial aspect of the arguement. No financial aid for these students. So do we accept outside students, yes. We never stated that we didn't. If you are try to compare us to private, you have to have a lot more than this.

Todays Lexington Herald has jump on the band wagon. So many reporting this it has to have substance. Fields notes reports.

I still say that if they work together they could get a game on the schedule for next year.
-
We haven't even heard if he is taking the job or not and you have heard this?
First, he will not move his family for one and done or three years. I believe that you will get him for at least 5 years if not to finish his career (10+) If the 5, then you will be able to get that you assistant under him with the experience to do the right things for the program. I don't believe you have anything to worry about as far as coaching goes.
Time to turn your attention toward providing the team with whatever they need. Like the money to attend camp this year because that will be big for them. By the way the money situation is there parents will really have to step up in the booster club.

Is is a great hire, I can't say it's not if your looking short term. Before this when you thought of Rockcastle you thought of Larkey first. I would just love to have a coach at Harlan that would end up like that. I just don't think Larkey will be here long enough, but Hey I hope he bring us a state champ.
Do you think he will be there 5-7 years?
-
Now come on we all know that Bell County loves this lol
If you believe that all of Bell loves this...then you truly understand what a great hire this is...
-
You can't please everyone. I would say that if this happens that it is a tremendous hire. A coach that has done outstanding things with programs. I don't think just because you are hometown guy that you get the job. I believe that Harlan County may have just put the program first this time and left the hometown politics at home.
-
Hey you do have a point. I have to give you that. I guess I'm just wanted someone who is going to be hear a while, but like I said Larkey is a Hell of coach I never disgreed about sorry. I guess I'm excited about next year. I just got kids coming up and I'm worried abuot who will be their coach. Godd luck too. Don't be so hard on me lol

The proposal, if we are talking about the same one, is not for added enforcement powers, its to hire and fund additional enforcement personnel (which is desparately needed).
I agree they may need more, but why spend the money if they continue to give out these ridiculous penalties.

Someone needs to start another topic for this post.
I know, I thought we could get a quick answer. It's not that important.:thumb:

Everyone is saying Bob Howard will be the new principal. He is currently the principal at Evarts High School.
I had thought they said they would go outside for that?
-
Nope no relation but why would Larkey come to Harlan to be Tim Saylors puppet. Everyone know it's going to be like working for Jerry Jone.
You have to just be trying to get a rise out of this board, because if you think Tim Saylor will tell Larkey what to do, you don't know the man.(Larkey)
You can't be this ..........:sssh:
-
Off the subject a bit, who will be the principal? I thought that they would be announcing this today or tommorrow. Can we get a heads up there?
Or is this top secret info as well? hahahaha
If not confirmed, who has been mentioned.
When should you choose your high school?

I guess that I tend to favor feeder school systems. When our high school coach puts his time and efforts in the future of my child, while he is in middle school, I repay that dedication with loyalty. I would not send him to Pineville or Middlesboro after what Bell does for him. I can do my homework before middle school (7th grade).
