  1. The "people that matter" are the kids playing the sports. Not the coaches, not the ADs, not the parents who are for anything that will help little Johnny win a championship ring. If you asked the kids, I think you'd be surprised by the results. And for what it's worth, the majority on this site, which seems to be a pretty decent representation of the state, are against the split.

I disagree, kids could care less who they play, they just want to play. You care. Your saying that X will be playing Lex Cath. instead of T for a championship they will be dissapointed?

  2. Your response is ambiguous.

All I can say is I strongly disagree with a multiplier for many reasons and for what it is worth I think there is zero talk about a multiplier among the people that matter.

I understand that both sides will have to give up something. I would hold firm with a split, if I were there to debate the problem. At least get the financial aid and boundaries under control. However, the reason I say a multiplier is, that in most states, this is where they go with trying to satisfy the problem. In Ky I think that they just want to be quiet and hope it goes away. Like Coach from NCC said "fuel the debate". They are just sitting and hoping for us to go away. I include the KHSAA. It is obvious that the majority are for a split. That is "people that matter". What has anyone done?

  3. What I don't understand is why ALL private schools must be boycotted because one committed a violation. Would it serve any justifiable purpose, other than to satisfy some latent angst of those who are anti-private schools?

Seems most do these things to get jump started and with the policies in place for them to be allowed to recruit students and draw from all over, with financial aid, it is and makes for unfair advantage. Not to mention all male and female student populations.

Take a look at the rapid success of these programs. Please don't tell me you are working harder. Coach at LCA football was at Hazard and Montgomery and this didn't happen. I believe that it is a direct result of the policies and different guidelines these school have.

Every school can cheat......I don't think that is why the boycott is taking place.

  4. Paying tuition for a student to come, when it is not appropriate as the KHSAA has stated, is the same as just paying a family money. Its not right. Anyway you look at it, it was the wrong thing to do. If a public school pays a kid to come to school there, that is wrong and if caught shouldn't be tolerated.

This is common practice in private school. Paying tuition for kids to come.

Financial aid .......not what LCA did.

  5. Please show me where it is illegal for a public school to give tuition assistance to out of district students. It may be and I've asked several times if it is but no one has been able to provide a difinative answer or any documentation backing it up.

    Alltell,

LBBC provided that info in another thread. I believe that it was in conversation with covercorner. Not for sure where though.

  6. I understand that, but I believe its taken to a whole new level. If a person at a school says you should transfer and come to our school to a kid, that is wrong. But if a school employee says you should come to our private school and we will pay your tuition, even though you don't qualify, then that takes it to a new level.

I believe it takes it to a new level when someone or a school says come to our private school and we will pay your tution...period.

  7. KHSAA board blasts LCA

    By Mike Fields

Lexington Christian Academy representatives got an earful of criticism from some Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control members on Monday.

It was the first time LCA appeared before the board since the school was fined and put on probation for giving improper financial assistance to student-athletes.

LCA did not appeal the charges, and already has paid a $3,000 fine and reimbursed the KHSAA $10,982 for the cost of its investigation.

Gregg Thornton, a lawyer and chairman of LCA's board of directors, had charts to detail how many black students received aid from what the KHSAA called "unapproved funding sources."

He also explained new policies that LCA has adopted to prevent it from happening in the future.

Thornton said some black student-athletes received financial aid from churches and/or private foundations that were trying to diversify LCA's student body.

"There was no evil intent," Thornton said. "There was no evidence any of these kids were recruited (for athletics).

"There is a misconception that some of these kids got more (aid) than they qualified for. That's not true. They never got more than their tuition."

Thornton admitted the school should have been aware of KHSAA rules regarding the unapproved funding sources.

"What we did was wrong, and the school should have been penalized," he said.

Bob Schneider, a board of control member who is athletic director and football coach at Newport Central Catholic, said LCA officials should have been more vigilant about the sources of financial aid.

"We've been dealing with public-private issues for three years now, and we've talked about financial aid a number of times," Schneider said. "It was out there big time."

Schneider said there was already a push among some public school superintendents to impose a boycott, also called a "schedule reduction," against private schools, and that push will intensify because of LCA's violations.

"(LCA) may have the money to afford to go state to state to play, but my school's gonna get killed," Schneider said. "We'll be out of business if there's a boycott."

Schneider also said he thought LCA has acted as if it "really didn't do anything wrong ... but it was wrong. This is something that's gonna hurt every private school in the state."

Jerry Keepers, a board of control member from Southern High School in Louisville, said it "kind of blows my mind" that LCA won the girls' state basketball title last season with a key player who had received financial aid from unapproved sources.

This kinda stands out for me. LCA's attitude. A little more weight behind the statement when comming from Coach Schneider.

  8. Unless the rules change, they won't be eligible unless they move.

As for Letcher, Bell and Lee, why would you go to an older consolidated school to get away from a new consolidated school?

The basketball team does lose some good ones, but they are quite a few good young players coming back, plus Caldwell should be healthy for his senior season to provide some leadership as a four-year starter.

Harlan City could get a few. Letcher, some already live there in the county and went to Cumberland. Not so sure if any will cross the mountain but a possibility. As for Bell I don't see any comming here right off, if a parent gets mad or scared maybe, but I don't see it.

  9. I dont understand how Mark Coury still gets to play...I'm walkin on to play for UK next year.

Someone needs to explain to BCG that Rudy was a great practice player @ ND, however only played a few plays in his last game.

I'm not a UK fan and even pull against many times, you know the underdog team. Last night I was embarrassed for them.

  10. You fail to acknowledge that as far as football goes, "the state" wanted to play the big boys. You all pleaded to crash the "party" in 1974. 4A was created so Henderson County, Boone County, Christian County, Clark County could have their day in the sun. Now, once in the party, you want to break it up due to your recent lack of success?

I don't hear the complaint stemming from boys basketball. Girls basketball: ask for separate classes. Start some better youth programs. Same for volleyball.

Non-revenue sports? They really don't enter the discussion due to lack of support in general as proven by the forums on this site.

I think that you give yourselves way to much credit. Trinity and X are not the reason for most wanting to split. Football is not the end all. There are many other reason for all the coaches and AD and principals voted for the split. So when we talk about a split, Trinity and X should not assume that everyone is just trying to get away from them.
