2026 Franklin-Simpson Wildcats
The Wildcats have released their new schedule for 2026. Only big off-season news that I’ve heard so far is the addition of former Russellville player and head coach Mikie Benton to the coaching staff.

Franklin-Simpson 66 Bullitt East 47 (2026 Clark's Pump-N-Shop Girls' Basketball Sweet 16®)
Lady Cats advancing one round farther than last year already. Never imagined they would even win the region with the players they lost from last year. Best run FS has had since the runner-up year in 2008.

Bowl Opt Outs...is this the end of Bowls?
I’d rather see a 16 team playoff for the Power 4 conferences and a separate 16 team playoff for the other conferences. The smaller conference teams have no real shot at winning the national title anyway. It’s all called FBS but it’s virtually two separate divisions from a competitive standpoint.

Lexington Christian Academy 33 Owensboro Catholic 28 (2A State Championship)
When the receiver went in motion to the right, he left the left tackle uncovered. The flag was probably late because they didn’t throw it until the pass was thrown. I don’t know why they didn’t get a chance to retry after the penalty though.

Franklin-Simpson 63 Bowling Green 54
First win for the Wildcats over the Purples since 2009.
- 2025 BGP Pick 5 Playoff Contest (Week 5)
-
Boyle County 34 Corbin 33
Is there any kind of grading system for high school officials like there is for pro officials? That can’t be a state semifinal level crew. Horrendous.

South Warren 36 Ryle 20
Jami Deberry is from Franklin and was the QB for Franklin-Simpson in 1999. That was the last FS team that beat Bowling Green. FS lost a heartbreaker to Owensboro in the region finals 16-15.

Murray 20 Lexington Catholic 14 (OT)
On the NFHS broadcast, this play is at 2:44:00. About 1:15 left in the game. It was a horrendous call.

Paducah Tilghman 49 Franklin-Simpson 14
I figured PT would get things right this week. FS is too mistake prone and does not have the type of talent to make up for it like PT has. Tilghman didn’t need to make up for too many mistakes tonight. Should be a great game with PT against Logan County next week. Proud of the Wildcats. They lost their best player to injury a few weeks ago but seemed to be peaking at the right time. Just can’t turn it over that many times against a good team. FS will only lose 6 seniors that saw a lot of playing time. The offensive line started 3 sophomores and a junior. Biggest losses will be at QB and safety and a couple of wingbacks.

I won’t be able to do updates this week because I am officiating a wedding tomorrow and am heading to the rehearsal now. At least I can listen to it on the way home.

If Tilghman cleans up the dropped passes, turnovers and penalties, they should win easily with the talent advantage they have. FS has a pretty potent but very one-dimensional offense. They played their cleanest game of the year against John Hardin as far as penalties and turnovers are concerned. The only times they didn’t score were when they took a knee at the end of each half. The defense is the big issue. FS just about has to score on each possession and hope to get a couple of defensive stops along the way. If FS plays a clean game and converts in the red zone, and if Tilghman makes a lot of mistakes, FS has a shot. I expect Tilghman to buckle down after last week’s performance and get the job done. I hope I’m wrong.
