  1. I'd recommend arriving early. They play Holy Cross - big rivalry! I wouldn't want to miss it! If you arrive by 6:45 you should be fine.
  2. CovCath- 62 Campbell Co- 57 Thelen will have a big night with 30+. Baker will do his job on the boards and defensive end while the Colonel guards play lockdown D. This is an athletic group of young men! Homecourt advantage will help them, as always, and CCH will come out wanting it more IMO.. This will be a very fundamental and intense game with some good shooting throughout. Losey wont put up quite the numbers that he has been putting up in the points category recently, but he'll still get 'His' and have a good game along with Mcgovney (sp?)
  3. What are we expecting to see from some of these teams tomorrow?
  4. Also, Bowdy and Maschinot from Cov Cath going 1 and 2 in the long jump.
  5. CCH's top 5 100 runners beat all of Campbell's with the exception of Neyman. CCH also has 2 110 hurdlers better than any of CCHS's. Cov Cath has a better time in the 4x100 as well as the shuttle hurds, the 4x200, the 4x1600, 2 athletes ahead of Campbell in the long jump, and would win triple jump. :walk: i dont think the meet would've been any closer at all if it was a regular meet.. IMO
  6. I agree with cincy.. and I also believe that Cov Cath will not be attending the Area 5 meet for they will be challenging themselves across the river and in louisville in the same week (according to the schedule). This season will come down to the state champioship where I think CCH will out-shine all NKY teams and most teams throughout the state, if not all (2A)
  7. It seemed like Cov Cath brought their A game and ran with a purpose. They overall dominated the boy's events. CCHS won it all for the girl's.
  8. My vote is for CCH if they can do the following: (1) Thelen and Wellbrock need to get the big guys from Newport in foul trouble early (2) Evans will be key - he has the ability to control the tempo against the quick Newport guards (3) CCH needs to dramatically reduce their turnovers and (4) CCH has to control the boards against the quicker more athletic Newport team. If these things happen, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Colonels playing tomorrow.
  9. Coach L. shouldn't have put himself in this predicament in the first place. There is no reason to have 7 seniors on this varsity squad. I'm glad the young men got to be involved in the basketball season but, this isn't a recreational team. You don't just take kids for the sake of taking kids so feelings won't be hurt. I think Coach L. has a big heart, but, in the end, keeping 7 seniors just hurt the team. Frustrated athletes, frustrated parents and frustrated fans. Coach L. needs to learn from his mistakes this year - next season keep the seniors who are going to make a difference to the team and cut the rest. He can't afford to have another season with 7-8 seniors taking spots from talented juniors and sophomores that need to be developed. I hope the seniors tonight have a great time. I think they all know what their individual roles have been on the team this year and I don't think there will be any starting surprises. I hope they all get good playing time and come away from tonight's game with great memories. I heard the CCH art students have had some fun with painting caricatures of each senior that will be hanging in the gym. I hope the rest of the crazies turn out to support their team!
  10. Massie (JV guard) is being brought up to play varsity tonight, "until further notice".
  11. Yes, mom's are at fault too. No question about it. My point is this. Obnoxious behavior from both sexes should not be tolerated. If someone's behavior is distracting you or affecting game play, I don't think it is out of line to casually throw a dirty look his/her way, or even say something like "can you please back off". I would hope that this would be enough to embarass the mom/dad enough for them to quit. I agree with everyone posting here that the only person getting hurt by this behavior is the child. If you have an opportunity to help make a difference by a glance or a few words, you should try. If that doesn't work or your not comfortable with that and the actions continue, go tell someone with some authority and ask them to intervene. Maybe that's what it will take to make the guilty parent(s) stop. Maybe the parent(s) don't even realize what they are doing. Maybe it will take a few to stand up to make the nonsense stop. Better yet, if you know the person maybe taking him/her aside and discussing it with them will help. I don't think parent's realize how out of control they may appear when they are in the heat of the moment. I think sometimes all someone needs is a wake up call.
  12. I loved seeing the freshman play JV - it was exciting and makes everyone (sophs and juniors) play harder. If the frosh know that there is a possibility to play up for a game you better believe they are going to play harder in their freshman game to prove to the coaches that they deserve to dress for JV. Playing up is a priveledge that needs to be earned. If a kid on either freshman team or JV team - practices hard all week, shows effort and leadership, they should be rewarded with having the ability to sit the bench at the next level. We all know that most of the time the younger kids aren't as strong and fast as the older kids and they usually can't compete at the intense level of those who play varsity regularly. But, if a kid knows if they work hard that he will be rewarded by sitting JV or Varsity - that means the world to them. Even if they don't get to play or only get in for a few minutes. It is special for them and they just might luck out and get in for a few minutes. It's a learning lesson. They always think they are good enough to play at the next level. When they get beat up the court, or lose a ball, they will soon realize that maybe they still need to work a little harder to get to the next level. Bottom line, having the ability to play up gives them something to work for and a little experience for when they are strong enough to indeed get some significant playing time at the next level. Congrats to the coaches for giving the kids who worked hard the opportunity to play up! I'm all for putting the best players at that moment on the court - whether that is freshman playing JV or JV player playing Varsity. The best players, at any given time should be playing.
  13. I totally agree that yelling at the kids while they are playing is distracting and an embarrassment to the person doing the yelling and the poor kid on the court. Next time, as fans, you see it happen, you should put that person in his place. No need to be confrontational but say something. If he thinks enough people think he is an idiot hopefully he will stop. The kid shouldn't be penalized with playing time. Usually the kids are just doing the best they can do. If the kid isn't doing his job (the coach's decision) then he should be pulled. It would be ashame to see a kid who is a true team player benched because of an unruly father who just doesn't get it. Speak up fans and tell the loud, obnoxious father to keep his mouth shut.
  14. There are always going to be exceptions. The fact is that there are 7 seniors and 8 juniors and out of those 15 only 5 contribute on a nightly basis. That is not the development of a program. Does CCH want to win Freshman/JV Regional Tournaments or win at the Varsity level? In a previous post you mentioned Bovard and Jacobs. Would these two players ever been the players that they became if they didn't have the experience playing varsity as sophomores? That experience allowed them to make major contributions as juniors and seniors. If kids are so frustrated that they are considering not coming back, it has nothing to do with that individual's passion for the game of basketball. It has everything to do with not seeing any action and not being developed. Gotta go watch CCH destroy Cooper tonight.
  15. How are the juniors getting better and preparing for playing at the next level when they are competing against freshman and sophomores from other schools? I believe that if a junior isn't good enough to play at the varsity level then they should be cut and allow the opportunity for some younger kids with talent to get the experience they need to play at the next level. And, if you have a junior getting significant playing time at the JV level, and also seeing significant playing time at the Varsity level.....then that talented young man should be playing Varsity. Period. Not whining that they aren't getting enough playing time at the varsity level and being brought down to play at the JV level just to keep him happy. How are the sophs getting better and preparing for playing at the next level when they are riding the bench? Come next year, if they even come out at all, will they have the experience they need to play at the varsity level? Heck no, they aren't being developed. JV shouldn't be the time to develop juniors. It should be a time to develop the younger kids. There's only a couple sophs that play consistently - Cleves and Hayden. The other sophomores are lucky to see a couple minutes each. It really is unfortunate for those players. Also, if a freshman does show potential they should be brought up to JV. That's what it means to develop a team. You are not developing a team for JV play - you are preparing these young men for varsity. CCH kept too many players and the team in the coming years is going to suffer for it.
