10 Good
  1. This team may not be as good as recent teams, but out of the eight 11th region championships Lex Cath has won since 1991(Haney left in 2002), three have been in the last 5 years. Who knows what the next 5-10 years holds, but to say they have been on the decline in the last few years is a bit of a stretch. You aren't going to be on top every year. They were one of the top 4 teams in the 11th region last year. They miss a few seniors from last year more than some may realize.
  2. Where is Cody Chambers going to school and s he playing basketball?
  3. Wittman does not play football unless something has changed.
  4. Heard from some other Lexington players that he was kicked off the team. He is an overhyped player based on the times I have seen him play.
  5. He had a severely infected finger which required surgery and IV antibiotics which he just finished.
  6. Lex Cath missed Floyd more than LCA missed Barnette (especially the way Nicodem played--he couldn't miss in the 1st half). Whitman becomes more effective and the rest of the team is better offensively and defensively with Floyd playing. Going from an athletic 6'4'' starter to a 5'10" starter would affect most teams. He is hoping to return on Friday against Tates Creek.
  7. You would think that would make sense, but you can't force it in to him every time against a collapsing defense or it just increases your turnovers. Most of the 3's were not bad shots, they just weren't falling. No excuses--just the way it was. Believe it or not, Whitman(despite 35 points) actually struggled a bit in this game.
  8. Craig Floyd did not play. Lex Cath is a different team without him.
  9. An infected finger requiring IV antibiotics. It has been painful, but is getting better.
  10. Craig Floyd did not play and the effect was dramatic. They are a completely different team without him.
  11. I'm sure he doesn't feel any different about his team after the game. They played well for most of the game against the No. 1 team in the state which had bigger guards and more depth. I guess you feel coaches should never make positive statements about their team. He said this in the context that some felt Lex Cath was not going to be competitive this year. Their defeat of Henry Clay shows they are a contender in the 11th region. I agree that Madison Central and Scott Co. are the favorites, but Scott Co. was the favorite last year also.
  12. There seem to be strong opinions on the 11th region players and teams by some who haven't seen many of them on a consistent basis. Some of the players have been hyped since 8th grade, largely based on AAU, and that is where some of these opinions seem to come from. Some players have had much more exposure as underclassmen, because they didn't have many outstanding upperclassmen playing in front of them or being the predominant options on offense. I won't rank the players, because I am biased. I would say you could add about 5 more players to make a top 15 and many of the spots could be interchanged. It looks like only one player from a team was selected for this list (4 were underclassmen). Preseason lists are meaningless anyway and only serve to create conversations/arguments like this. If you want to see some ridiculous rankings, look at Rick Bolus's list. The end of the year ratings are what count and even they can be suspect at times(some of the all-state teams varied quite a bit from each other last year). I say let the season begin, and see what happens. I remember last year when everyone was saying Christian County was overrated.
  13. Forgot about Scott Co.--Chad Jackson at Northern Ky, Dakota Euton and Austin Flannery at Asbury, and Ge'lawn Guyn at Cincinnatti.
  14. Others from the 11th region (besides Nathan Novosel who was always a top student)-- Michael Sparks(Tates Creek)--senior at VMI Taylor Stewart(Lex Cath)--senior at Air Force Vee Sanford(Lex Cath)--redshirt soph at Dayton Mike Stone(Tates Creek)--senior at Transy Barrett Meyer(Franklin Co)--junior at Transy Taylor Botkin( Lex Cath)--junior at Transy Shelvin Mack(Bryan Station)--NBA Jaron Jones(Bryan Station)--senior at Eastern Vic Moses(Henry Clay)--senior at Georgetown Aaron Morris(Madison Central)--senior at Georgetown Charles Ashford(Bryan Station)--junior at Coastal Carolina Jordan Smart(Lex Cath)--junior at Vanderbilt There may be some others I've overlooked.
