  1. I thought Matt St. John from South Laurel was on the jr. team. Was he there?
  2. Don't think Hicks is going anywhere. Other than the incredible talent being brought in doesn't Scott County have a student body of nearly 2300. That's a lot of kids to pick from. For a high school BB Coach he could hardly beat his current situation even at a private school.
  3. I think part of the reason was to get the middle to open up and get the clutter of defenders out away from the basket. Get some of the big kids away from the paint and to ease up on some of the rough play around the basket. Also considering the trapizoid lane like international play for the same reasons. Personally, I think it may have the opposite effect they are hoping for. I think if you move the 3 point line back there will likely be more saging defenses and help on the inside play since you should not be able to make the 3 as easily and would not have to guard the 3 as honestly .
  4. The future looks great for the Scott County Basketball program. Not necesarily for the middle school kid who has worked his brains out through grade and middle school in order to get the opportunity to play on HIS high school basketball team. This is obviously a very talented group to win the KBA 7th Grade State Championship. I just think it's not likely you will see them get the opportunity to play for the KHSAA State Championship a few years from now.
  5. This is just a thought, but I bet if Whitakers Dad lost his job at Hazard considering the current job market in Scott Co. I would say he could find employment there quicker than a highly skilled point guard could penetrate and pitch.
  6. Sorry guys, I'm way behind on this one. I heard Coach Jones was the front-runner for the Harlan Co job but hadn't heard they had hired anyone.
  7. Coach Woods has a pretty good group of young kids coming through his Wayne progam right now and I think he would generally like his chances where he is. Even though the 12th has a lot of quality teams at the top of the heap, who would want to deal with Hazard right now in the 14th. They were runner-up in the All A to Hopson and U.H. and return everybody for the next year or two. They are also coached be Al Holland who has taken multiple teams to the state multiple times. The 13th would put him back in the position of having to annually go through Steve Wright and Roscoe Dennys' South Laurel teams that have been the most successful program in the 12th or 13th over the past several years. Why deal with that.
  8. If Woods did go to new Harlan Co. school he would get a lot of talented kids to pick from. They apparently want to get the best Coaches available and are willing to make the job attractive as evidenced by their hiring Tom Larkey from Rockcastle for their football team.
  9. You are kidding about Jones going to Monticello. He had a boys team that returns maybe the best player in the region that won 20 some games last year.
  10. I doubt Manns will give up his starting spot and don't see Wilson moving off the point. Doesn't Hounds have a couple of big young kids that will see some varsity minutes.
  11. I think you would be hard pressed to win at any level consistently with all guards just as you would if you had all big guys. Each group generally creates obvious advantages and disadvantages. I do believe however if I had to go out and put together a high school team to be competitive it sure would be a lot easier finding my quality guards for my program than finding my quality big guys. There are simply fewer big guys who can play. I believe the biggest gap that still exist between the Mid-major colleges and the D1 school is at the 4 and 5 positions. I will often see the mid-major team with point guard, shooting guard and small forward that I think would do well with a lot of D1 schools. No knock on the mid-majors but I rarely watch a game were I sit there and think to myself ya know that power forward and that post guy could fit in and play just as well as the 4 and 5 guys in the SEC, Big East or Big 10.
