Surprising outcome, thought Eastern had momentum coming in.

Some picked Eastern to make it to the finals.

Central came to play and hit some clutch threes.

Central 64, Eastern 61: The Yellowjackets, who hit 7 of 12 three-point tries in the first half, led 56-46 after a three by Chandler, but Percy Blade, Tyrell Corlew and Chris Hill sparked an Eastern rally that cut the Eagles’ deficit to 58-56 after a Corlew 3-pointer with 1:30 left.

Stuart Jackson hit a free throw before Hill made two foul shots to make it 59-58 with 56.4 seconds to go. Johnson sank 3 of 4 free throws for a 62-58 edge at 0:20 Blade’s 3-pointer pulled Eastern within 62-61 at 0:12.9, but Chandler calmly sank two free throws at 0:08.5.

 

Jamie Johnson, a 5-foot-6 sophomore guard, hit 5 of 7 threes and scored 24 points, and Dominique Chandler, a 5-10 junior, canned 4 of 6 as Central (14-14) eliminated the No. 14 team in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings.

I certainly did. With Trinity, Ballard and Manual on the other side of the bracket, it looked as though a spot in the semis was theirs to lose, despite their loss to X earlier this year.
