Lady 'Stangs Win Freshmen Championship

:notworthy:Coach Jeff Schaefer's Lady 'Stang Freshmen team won the 37th District Championship beating Scott 43-31 at Seither Center Monday Night. The freshmen built a 27-11 halftime lead. The Bishop Brossart freshmen were led by 8th Grader Emily Schultz (15 points), 8th Grader Abby King (12 points) and 8th Grader Sydney Shannon (10 points). They now play the 40th District winner Sunday at 1:30 in the 10th Region Tourney at Pendleton County High School.

Sydney will be a game changer for the 10th region's inside play for the next 4 years. . . Very tough to defend.

Don't these eighth graders play on the St Mary's team? Question can you play eight grade and Freshemn? These girls are good no doubt, if they go to Brossart the future looks bright there.

Yes they attend St Mary's, and those mentioned here plan to attend BBHS. NKMSAA says you can't play 8th grade if you are also playing freshman or above, but St Mary's is not part of NKMSAA. However, they have beat Gray and Woodland (the best two 8th grade girls teams in NKMSAA) in tournaments this year.

Ok, one more question, they play AAU too right, if I am right and I do not know for sure, can you play any type of High School ball and AAU at the same time?

From the following from the KHSAA there may be a loophole for an 8th grader playing up on a 9th grade team and playing AAU ball at the same time. The rule says you can't do that "after enrolling in grade nine (9)" but it seemingly doesn't address playing up. Interesting!

Any student who, after enrolling in grade nine (9), has been a

contestant in football or basketball at any level (grades 9-12) and

has eligibility remaining in that sport may not participate on any

non-school sponsored team or in any all-star game in that sport

or any variation of that sport from the first day of school through

the last scheduled contest played in that sport (including KHSAA

sanctioned postseason) by that school unless it has been sanctioned

by the Board of Control.

 

Following the team’s last scheduled game (including post season),

there are no restrictions on play in that specific sport for the studentathletes.

I'm pretty sure there groing to Brossart. Plus there's 5 or 6 other good players that will be as well from other feeder schools. Brossart basketball should be in great shape. Thats great for all the BGP followers , You'll get the full update every game from BGH !!
