Nice Story on Mason County Standout/UK Recruit Josh Harris

Featured Replies

Larry Harris wanted to play his college football at the University of Kentucky, but the Paris two-way star had committed to Western Kentucky by the time the Wildcats showed any interest before his 1988 graduation.

In an ironic bit of symmetry, Larry's son Josh, a senior at Mason County, committed to the Cats early. And that loyalty was reciprocated when Josh went down with a season-ending ankle injury in the third game of this past season and UK coach Joker Phillips kept Josh's scholarship offer on the table.

Josh actually feels like he's progressing significantly ahead of schedule. He still plans to try to suit up for the basketball Royals this season, if he's cleared, and "definitely" plans to run track in the spring.

"When it first happened, that first day, they're telling me that I'm gonna be out (for) football, basketball and probably track, they're thinking all the way up until the summer, and in the back of my mind, I'm saying, 'No, that's not happening,'" Josh said with a look of defiance for effect, which drew a laugh from Larry. "It just keeps getting better and better, and ... there's minor setbacks every day, but as for overall progress, I feel like I'm way ahead of where I expected -- or where they expected -- me to be."

Nice story indeed. Thanks for posting it mc. I've never met Josh but I know that David Buchanan thinks the world of him. That's all I need to know. UK is getting a great football player and a great person.

To add some fuel to the fire of Highlands getting mentioned in every thread regardless of the thread title, I'll point out that the article mentioned one of Josh's treating doctors, Dr. Bob Ross. Bob graduated from Highlands with me in 1976. Great guy who unfortunately recently lost his Dad.

PS: David if you read this post, have the former player you had call me, call me again on my cell. I wrote his number down to call him back and lost it. Thx.

Bob has been my family doc for several years. He was with us at the hospital when my mother-in-law died (Friday the 13th) a couple of weeks ago. His dad's funeral was two days earlier.
