Warren Central 55 Graves County 21

Featured Replies

Very odd first half. Both teams played very strong defense in the first quarter, with the first Dragon first down not coming until the 4 minute mark, and Graves not getting their first 1st down until the second quarter. After a scoreless first came an explosion of scoring, with the teams trading scores in the a flurry in the first few minutes. But it was the last 2 minutes of the half that doomed the Eagles. Central led 21-14 and took over the ball at their own 48. After picking up a first down, they hit a 40 yard bomb to go up 28-14. Graves ran their offense, but got nowhere and had to punt with around 40 seconds. Central blocked the punt and got to the Graves 9. They hit a 9 yard TD pass to go up 35-14 with around 17 seconds left. After a pooch kick, Graves elected not to kneel. Eric Brown ripped the ball out of the runners hands on the first play and went 40 yards to score and make it 42-14 at the half. And the game was essentially over.

Wow that had to be a pitiful feeling at halftime for Graves to play so close but essentially out of the game. Good job WC and see you next week at Christian.

Obviously looking back, the decision not to kneel was a very costly one. It's just a TD, and 35-14 certainly isn't good, but 42-14 just feels that much worse. That was really the only thing they could have done anything about in that flurry other than execute better. The blocked punt was a thing of beauty. Kid got a perfect jump at the snap and no one even touched him.
