Leatherneck, sorry to be so tardy. Been a very bizarre week and I've been away from the board...

Collins - graduated a boatload of talent last year, including one of the best passers in the state in Brandon Cresap. Had tons of skill players. This year, coach Lucas again has a plethora of talented skill players - but not a lot of experience. Michael Brooks accounted for 17 tackles in Collins' easy win over Mercer County last week and 10 tackles vs. Meade County in the season opener...and Deandre Farris had 100 yards and 2 TDs rushing on just 5 carries(!). Lawson Page, the new QB, was 9 of 16 for 130 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT vs. Mercer. Andrew Page quarterbacked in the season-opening loss to 6A Meade County (by 8 points) and had similar numbers, 9 of 17 for 128 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT.

Oldham County graduated almost everyone from the offensive line and nearly all of what was one of the best overall linebacking corps in metro Louisville. Several Colonels who graduated are playing on teams such as Morehead, Murray, Eastern, Georgetown, etc. New QB Brett Strnad brings a new dimension to the Colonels' attack with his running ability and arm...Jacob Taylor could be a breakthrough running back... Oldham has home run ability in WR Cody Oldham and WR Kerry Smith. Smith has already scored twice on long punt returns and on a long run from scrimmage. Oldham has an 80 yard TD reception to his credit and is one of the state's top sprinters. Defensively, Oldham is undersized on the line, but the young linebackers are doing well and the secondary is solid.

It would appear that the matchup is Oldham's big-play ability vs. a Collins' defense that may be the weaker Titans' unit...and the Collins' passing attack favored by Lucas vs. a pretty good Oldham secondary.

The game will be at Oldham County's Bell Field...it is the first-ever meeting between the two schools, but the longstanding rivalry between Shelby County and Oldham County will carry over some to this budding rivalry...

Collins is riding high after an easy win last week over Mercer...Oldham is stinging after losing three fumbles inside the North Oldham red zone (at the 19, the 1, and the goal line) and falling at home in the first-ever meeting between those two teams, 31-20. In that game, Oldham struggled against the run, but showed a pretty diverse and dangerous offense. Considering Oldham had essentially no competition from Atherton in their opening game, last week was pretty much the first opportunity for the Colonels to work out the kinks.

If Oldham doesn't defend the run better this week, it could be a long night for the Colonels. On the other hand, Collins will have to be focused on every play due to the Colonels' ability to strike from anywhere on the field and due to their special teams' return men.

I think this game could be very exciting for the fans, with both teams putting some points on the board. But I like Oldham in a nail-biter primarily because I think the Oldham defense matches up better against Collins' strengths than the Collins defense matches up against Oldham's...

Of course, I could be wrong...

Looking forward to a fun one.
