Monroe County 2011

Featured Replies

What does Monroe County need to do to improve in 2011? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Think that Monroe should have a good season again. They lost some fine players but do have some talent returning. Moving to 3A will help in the district as the new district will not be as strong as old 2A district with both Glasgow and Green Co. being top ten teams in 2A. If line play on both sides of the ball improves Monroe will be a factor in the region.

Hello again for another season.

Monroe has incredible rebound ability this year with a lot of the players that were underclassmen last year getting so much playing time throughout the year. I was talking with one of the line coaches and he stated that the line was better at this time than last years at the same time. Good news for the Roe Fans!!!! We do have some beasts back from last year like Chad Wilson...IMO one of the top 5 best players to come through Monroe's doors. And we have the addition of the FCA transfer Jacob Hodges...this kid is the real deal. He has good size, speed, grit, and all the heart of his father (in which I had the privilege to play with)!!!! The backfield is returning Cory Shirley, a super fast speedster with incredible field vision, but his size is not the greatest. Monroe lost quite a few really good players from last year but I do believe that they will be a good opponent for anyone in 3a this year. More to come when I speak to the rest of the coaching staff!!!! God speed!!!

Should be another good season for the Falcons. The jump to 3A will most likley lead to an easier route to a first round bye than in years past, but the Falcons still have the quality opponents required to build a good playoff team. Those opponents include Franklin-Simpson, Warren East, Glasgow and Allen County-Scottsville.

As for returning talent, the Falcons return several key players from last years regional runner-up team. None of the returning players will play a bigger role in the Falcons success than Chad Wilson, Chad posses the same talent that his D1 playing brother has. My gut tells me that Chad may end up having a more successful high school run than his brother Neil, but the jury is still out on that one. Guys like Dylan Woods (so), John Alan Yokley (jr) and Jacob Hodges (jr) should anchor the defense which in my opinion will be the key to sucess in 2011 especially considering the Falcons will have to replace the QB, FB, TB, leading WR and numerous OL from last years team. If the Defense can lead the way and give the newly constructed offense time to grow and gel then theres no reason to think the Falcons can't win the district and possibly put together a another nice playoff run.

Go Roe Go...
