Garrard County 95 Kentucky School f/t Deaf 39

Garrard County beat KSD in the first round of the 45th District tonight in Lancaster. The Lions shot out to a 30-2 first quarter lead then played the junior varsity and freshmen for the remainder of the evening. I don't know the numbers off hand but 13 players scored for Garrard County. KSD was led in scoring by Aaron Smith who had 20 points. Garrard County advances to play Lincoln County in the semifinals on Wednesday night.

Just a side note on KSD. The Colonels are typically overmatched in the 4/5 game of the 45th District (the highlights of the KSD season are the annual Mason-Dixon National Deaf Tournament and the Kentucky Classic) but they always play hard, play smart, and give a good performance. This year was no different. Aaron Smith of KSD is a kid who could contribute quality minutes for a whole lot of teams in Kentucky. Their school is always well represented with tons of students and fans. Congratulations to Coach Mike Yance and a great group of kids.

I am sure this gets asked every year but has KSD ever won this game and who did they defeat? How many times have they won this game if they have won this game?

Good luck Wednesday night. Should be a huge gate for Garrard County on Wednesday.

I don't know if KSD has ever won the 4/5 game. I know when the district was Danville, Boyle, Casey, Lincoln they gave Casey a good run one season and Danville a good run once. That was back in the mid-90s; Patrick Harris was a star player for them.

KSD's only trip to the region came in 1981. That was when the 45th was Boyle, Danville, Garrard, and KSD. They beat Garrard 66-54 in Lancaster in the first round and then lost to Danville in the final. They lost to Wayne County 72-56 in the first round of the region. They had a superstar in David Hamilton who went on to play in college and now coaches a deaf school in California.
