There not too many teams that are better defensively than Frank's squad in the 8th region. Defense can carry you along way and it looks like the Lady Dragons have recently shut down both Collins and OC.

Rebounding, rebounding, rebounding.

 

Just like the boys' matchup, only in this game it was South that controlled the glass. We had South winning the rebounding war by 12, and it may have been more.

 

As far as defense, Mr. Athletics is so right...and South held Oldham - which came in averaging a region-best 64 ppg - to just 37 points and 20% field goal shooting (10 of 50!) and 13% beyond the arc (3 of 23). Funny, it even seemed to "carry over" to the line, where Oldham was just 14 of 29 for 48.3%. Turnovers, however, really weren't the big issue...Oldham had just two more (unofficially) than South...

 

In the end, though, it wasn't the shooting or rebounding, per se. I think it was the poise. Oldham battled back from a 27-16 halftime deficit to cut the lead to 35-30 after three. And early in the fourth, it was 35-32, South by just three. But the Lady Dragons showed that they are a veteran club; they turned up the screws on defense (Oldham 1 for 11 in the fourth, 7 turnovers), pounded the glass, and pulled away...the Lady Dragons were on a 20-5 run to end the game...
