Does the New format for the "Best of the Bluegrass" game hurt Kentucky Football?

Featured Replies

Does the new format of having the Louisville teams on one team and the rest of the state on another team hurt football for the state? Does it make since? What is the motivation? Why not do the East/West Game? Why single out one area of the state like this? Does this cause more friction between the Louisville Area and the rest of the state?

Many questions, have at it.

Does anyone have a reason, or explanation as to why this has been adopted as the new format?

It's very simple Ram. This All-Star format is almost like returning to the Three Class Playoff system which was extremely popular. In the Top Class the Jefferson County Champion was matched against the State At-Large Champion. Based upon the enthusiasm I saw today, I think this format will work great.

Timing is not good. IMO. Weather and Basketball season really hurt that attendance and thus the excitement of the game. I like the format but hate the time of the year it is held!!!!

The weather was unusually bad for this time of year. You'll always have some sort of conflict with other sports. Playing this time of year can really help some kids get recruited. If it was held in the spring, many (most?) kids who had signed/committed wouldn't play. I wouldn't let my son play after committing. Nothing good could come out of it, but something bad certainly could.

I think, from what I heard, that the Louisville coaches suggested the Louisville vs KY format. As far as friction goes, is East/West friction better than Louisville/KY friction. From what I saw, there wasn't any friction, just kids playing a game and shaking hands afterward. IMO this format stacks the odds against Louisville. The OL and DL for KY was much bigger than Louisville's.

I just can't see it. Why have players on one team from every far corner of the state vs players on a team from one small area. The East/West game made since, divide the state in half and play each other.

I can't speak for anyone else but my family and I enjoyed the format. It was sort of made out to be a UofL versus UK type deal right down to the colors. Yes the Kentucky team had a larger base to chose from I guess but it looked to me like most of the kids had a lot of fun. I know I did. And as for the weather you know in Kentucky it very easily could have been 60 degrees yesterday, that was just the luck of the draw.

Yeah. In the summer or spring it could have been thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Game is great close to the season. Week after the State Championships, in a great location, at a great facility. The people at X did a great job hosting. Game organizers made the expeirence a great event for the kids. Hats off to all who made this game possible, great end to the Kentucky high school football season!

It should be Northern Kentucky vs Kentucky play the game at SK!
