I am curious to see how deep these 10 teams will go in the playoffs!!!

Out of these 10 teams, who do you think is the hottest going into the playoffs? NewCenCath coming off a loss to Beechwood, OCath is rolling into playoffs, DeSales is battle tested, Murray is unproven to this point, Danville..is Danville, Prestonsburg is unfamiliar to me, Corbin is always solid, CAL in my opinion is overrated, Glasgow needs to get healthy, and Green is coming off some big wins. You could throw in Washington who is still a big question mark, and Monroe who is always a tough out come playoffs. So who comes together and makes the run in a Class that is WIDE OPEN?

How is Murray "unproven?" .. they rolled through their district and just beat a top-10 team in Class A on the road.

 

I'm not mainitaining that the Tigers' schedule has been gangbusters, by any means, but people railed about it last year ... and look what happened. Murray gave the eventual state champs by far their toughest game in the postseason.

Didn't mean to cause a stir...just that their schedule was not at the level of some of the other Top 10 teams. Lets take a look:

 

#1 NewCenCath - only loses come to 1A power Beechwood, and 6A Ryle. Played several teams in higher classes.

#2 OCath - only loss to Owensboro. Schedule still a question.

#3 DeSales - losses were to 4A Western, (2) 6A teams Fern Creek and Seneca, and 1A Holy Cross (Lou.)

#4 Murray - only played 2 teams above their class and both were 7 pt. wins over Calloway Co. and Madisonville North-Hopkins

#5 Danville - losses were to 3A #1 Somerset, 4A #1 Boyle County, and 5A Southwestern all in a span of 3 weeks.

#6 Prestonsburg - losses were to (2) 3A schools in Breathitt Co. and Pike Co. Central

#7 Corbin - losses were to 4A #1 Boyle Co. and 1A #2 Hazard

#8 CAL - four losses to Evansville, IN and (2) 1A teams in Holy Cross and LCA, as well as a loss to DeSales. I too think they are overrated.

#9 Glasgow - 2 losses to 4A schools in ACS and Franklin Simpson

#10 Green Co. - losses are to (2) 4A teams in #2 Bell Co. and Larue Co., as well as a 1 pt. loss to Glasgow at Glasgow.

 

So u see, in my opinion; Murray and CAL are the two in the Top 10 that is unproven at this point. Not saying they are not good teams but their scheduling has not put them against the stiffest opponents.

Need I add that Calloway County finished 2-8 and Madisonville North-Hopkins finished 5-5 regular season.

 

The total combined record of the teams they played during the regular season was 35 wins and 64 loses.

 

Biggest wins were against 1A Crittenden Co. (7-3) and 2A Caldwell Co. (6-4)

 

In my opinion, that is the definition of "UNPROVEN."

Need I add that Calloway County finished 2-8 and Madisonville North-Hopkins finished 5-5 regular season.

Madisonville is a 5A school that finished 5-5, just as is the Dixie Heights club that Newport Catholic beat.

 

Now, I'm not saying that Madisonville is as good as Dixie Heights by any stretch, but Madisonville is a pretty solid win for a 2A team. Four of their five losses are to ranked teams, and the other was to a team that won their 6A district.

 

Do I wish that Murray had a more challenging schedule? Yes, I certainly wish they had been able to work out a date with Mayfield two years ago. That would have been a great matchup.

 

Still, I think Murray has shown they're a legitimate contender. I don't think they will get past Owensboro Catholic, but it certainly wouldn't be a shock if they did.

The Evansville Central team that beat CAL is 9-2 and is in the third round of the 4A playoffs, having won two playoff games by a combined score of 55-14. Central would be a 5A or 6A team in Kentucky.

WESTSIDER you make good points and they are well taken. My overall outlook on Murray is because I am unfamiliar with this team and program. I do not mean to down grade them, just making football conversation. I wish we got a chance to play a Murray here in Central Kentucky so we could be more up to date on their teams. Class 2A is wide open and as many as 12 teams could make a run at the right time and win IMO. Can't wait till Friday rolls around even though the best games will be in Week #2.
