It does help speed up the pool play games, but more importantly if you play to 21 or go 25,25,15 it is a shortened version and refs get payed less. Then Tourney makes more $$... I like the 25.25 and to 15 in the 3rd game, if needed, format for pool play. Still saves time and money but keeps players focusing on 25.

 

I like the 25, 25, 15 format too. For the 3rd game it puts more focus on each point during the shortened set.

For tournaments like that over the summer, best-of-three sets is fine BUT the KHSAA needs to do away with best-of-three sets in the varsity level and go with best-of-five (25-25-25-25-15).

I believe that it is an option now .

I personally don't think they should allow it to be an option...they need to make it mandatory and then not allow teams to have tournaments where there can be ties or play to 21 in sets. If you can't play to 25 in a set, then don't schedule as many teams playing in tournaments.

3 out of 5 is an option and most schools do not want it or it would have been voted in. Invitational tourneys can basically play any shortened format they want and it is usually known up front. If the number of matches rule changes for next year, look for these tourneys to go to full amount and less matches.

Bluegrass State Games will probably always be 21,21,15 due to the amount of teams. I don't think it would be a bad thing to have the district, regionals, state go to the best 3 out of 5.

All have gone pretty much exactly how I thought they would with the only exception of SHDHS giving up 23 points in the second set to Central Hardin...they must've subbed some folks in that weren't as good as their starters.

 

Without knowing this year's teams, I wonder how many regular starters Assumption sat in the first round match against South Laurel...Ron Kordes is notorious for doing that...so are the other dominant Louisville schools when they face inferior competition.

I have been getting all the info from thier site on today's matches. They have done an excellent job with that site! I have been very impressed with the live reporting. Wish they could do that with all sports.

 

I was surprsied by the Assumption/South Laurel score. I know they are stacked (as most of the Lville schools are); however Henry Clay is having a great year and I would love to see those two meet up. Mercy/NCC will be a great game tomorrow. I really with I could get up there to watch a couple of those matches.
