Admirable numbers until you consider the record established from Concord, California: De La Salle Spartans won 151 consecutive high school football games. Coach Bob Ladaucer has more unbeaten seasons than total losses.

Well, I would offer that what De La Salle did is so far off the "grid" that it's hard to even compare other winning streaks to theirs. I know Charlotte Independence had something like a 109-game winning streak until Elder ended it back in 2007.

 

There is a book entitled "When the Game Stands Tall" that details the DLS football program, and it's an interesting read. I would argue that what DLS accomplished over the course of their win streak is the most impressive feat in all of American sports history, especially when you consider that it was accomplished on the backs of several different groups of 16, 17 and 18 year-old amateur-status kids with no let down.

 

I've heard and read that it is extremely hard for an organization (be it a football program, a company, or even a nation) to maintain its "winning ways" after reaching the top. The fact that DLS was able to do it over and over and over again the way they did is remarkable. Frankly, if I'm a leader of a business who's wanting to stay on top in a field, I would do my best to study and learn everything I could about how Coach Lad was able to accomplish this. Heck, if I was the US President I'd be doing the same thing right now!
