Grant County or Williamstown?

Featured Replies

Both schools have just named new head coaches...Jim Hicks for the Braves, and Steve Sigmon for the Demons. My first question is, who makes the biggest impact in year one? (And please define what you think of "impact"!)

There's obviously some differences in both programs. Williamstown won just 5 games last year, so there's a ton of head room in the W-L for Coach Sigmon. But, the Demons lost "Mr. Everything" in Storm Mason to graduation, so there's going to be some big shoes to fill.

Grant County won 10 games last year, despite a mid-season coaching change, and went right down to the wire with Walton for a regional berth. But, they, too, lose a couple of key contributors in Isaiah Wartman and Mike Davis.

You could say Grant County might have the better talent coming back...but Williamstown might have the biggest room for improvement. So, what say you...who has the biggest impact in 2010?

Dont forget that Williamstown also lost Eric White. While Storm may have been their best player, Eric was their heart and soul.

Very true. Did not mean to leave anyone out on either team.

I think the glory days for the Demons are gone. I don;t see this program ever returning to mediocrity. All things considered Size, geographic location, district opponents, etc are too much for them to overcome. I would be shocked if they ever have another wining record for a season. They may not win another district game for a few years.

Most people forget that the success they had a few years ago included a lot of transfers. The year that Coach Mefford won a lot of games they had 2 brothers move in from Conner, a player move in from Scott County, and another play that had transfered from Grant County. Hard to be successful in a school this small when so much attention is put on the band.
