Holmes 43 Highlands 30 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Congrats to Holmes as they played very well tonight and were very hot from behind the arc. 5/9 to be exact with Evans 2/2 and Daquan Palmer 3/6. Palmer led Holmes with 13. Rayshawn Coston had 10.

Highlands cut the Holmes lead to 3 at the start of the 4th qtr at 33-30 but Holmes went on a 10-0 run to end the game.Donovan McCoy had 15 to lead the Birds on 7/10 shooting.

Holmes

15/36 FG 41%

5/9 3pt. 55%

8/12 FT 66%

20 rebounds

4 total team fouls for the game.

8 turnovers

10 steals

12 pts off turnovers.

Highlands

14/35 FG 40%

0/6 3pt. 0%

2/4 FT 50%

23 rebounds

14 turnovers

2 pts off turnovers

8 steals

10 total team fouls.

Highlands finishes the season 14-6 overall. Holmes was the better team tonight and they have the athletes to win the tournament but will have to shoot the 3 like they did tonight.

14 total fouls called in this game. 4 of Highlands 10 total fouls were in the last 1:30 when they had to foul and Holmes nailed all of their FT's.

So essentially it was 10 total fouls called in this game because those last 4 for Highlands were automatic.

Highlands didnt adapt to this type of game where the refs were not going to call fouls. They were not aggressive enough and left too many fouls on the floor.

This has to be very disappointing being the # 1 seed and being one and done.

It wasn't surprising. The Birds were tired, only playing 6 man rotation pretty much all season. And turnovers have been a problem all season long.

I'm sure there was a lot of disappointment from the players, coaches and fans, but Highlands did have a GREAT year and has nothing to be ashamed of.

Like MACL states, it was disappointing but the players, coaches and fans all are proud of the kids for winning some big games during the season. If you look at the program there are only 10 kids on the roster and players 7-10 probably only avg 2 min a game if that.

Holmes beat them straight up though and capitalized on the turnovers. If you look at 2 stats from this game it was points off turnovers for Holmes (12) and 3 point shooting for them 5/9 (15 pts). These are two things that were not evident in their first meeting over 2 weeks ago over in Ft. Thomas when Highlands won.

I am still trying to figure out how Holmes beat Scott by 23 points, because Scott is a very good team.

I actually hope they both end up in the finals. I would like to see a re-match.
