Lou. Male/Highlands Scrimmage

Featured Replies

Male won all four quarters

1st Q. 24-15

2nd Q. 17-13

3rd Q.14-13

4thQ. 11-9

Highlands was very competitive but to much speed and athletic ability for Highlands to overcome in this one. Male had good guard play and they were lazer quick. Male also had a couple 6-5 players inside playing above the square.

Highlands used a 7 man rotation playing without:

Lother (thumb)

Grote (back)

Grubbs (footbal)

Stewart (unspecified)

The good news All will be back soon:ylsuper:

Scoring for Highlands-

Gordon 8 pts.

Kowolonek 14 pts.

Dill 11 pts.

Crowley 4 pts.

Watson 4 pts.

Smith-Keller 8 pts.

Dean 2 pts.

Nice Job Male Best of Luck!!!

Looks like the Birds are pretty banged up and I heard Gordon had a sports hernia as well recently.

Hopefully by mid to late December they have a full squad of healthy players.

Thanks for the summary Catbird.

No sports hernia for Gordon. He returned Nov. 13th after being held out 10-12days because of a strained groin. He got a little winded against Male's athletic guards but looked very solid. The kid has really benefited from playing in the AAU circuit.

Lother was cleared yesterday to play he will see some action this weekend.

Grote has tendinitis of the lower back after wearing a back brace for 6-8 weeks. The specialist ruled out disk and vertebrae problems. He's being treated with anti-flammatory medication and physical therapy. Many feared that it was more serious similar to what happened to former Highlands star Greg McGraw. He will be returning soon.

Thanks for the clarification.

Best of luck to Highlands in the upcoming season. With the players at football still and coming back from injuries, HHS should be pretty solid this year.

Is Kyle Welz not playing basketball this year?

Is Kyle Welz not playing basketball this year?

I heard he is not coming out. They have a crowded SR class as it is so I think with him having a chance to play college football I would guess he starts lifting.JMO

I have a question on Grote. Why is he playing basketball right now, when I thought that he was a member of the football team. Also would like to know when the next scrimmage game is and where it will be held.

Grote blew his football season way early and IMO it was a bad decision to even go out for Football this year. Look where it got him, hurt. I dont think he played in one game did he?

I dont believe they have any home scrimmages. The next one is down at Sheldon Clark on Saturday in the Ford Lane Classic. Its about 3 hrs away. They play Bath Co I believe in that one.

Nope.

Nope.

I thought so. Just think how much better, more conditioned he could have been by not putting on the pads. Out of the 8 SRs they will have on the roster, who played 98% of all minutes last season on a 21-9 team, 7 could have been working out and training together these past 3 months. Grote at times last season was unstoppable. He hit a funk toward the last 5 or 6 games. When fully healthy he compliments Kowolonek very well as a scorer. I am expecting Corey Dill to maybe have a breakout year. This should be a fun group to watch.
