Goodyear is a city about 30 miles north of Phoenix that is growing. I absolutely love the move, and it saves the Reds' organization a TON of money.

With lackluster ticket sales, a falling economy, and a money strapped roster, it's above a moot point. Trust me.

The Reds are splitting maintenance costs with Cleveland. That saves money.

 

The Reds will be able to drive from game to game, instead of being forced to fly in SW Florida. That saves money.

 

A flight from Louisville to Phoenix, around February, is less than $200. That saves money. Regardless, the Reds probably fly private, so I'm not sure that airfare is a valid argument for either side.

 

The Reds also saved an enormous amount of money on the cost of the stadium. Had they stayed in Sarasota, they would have had to foot over 50% of the bill. Instead, by moving to Goodyear, they have saved millions of dollars.

Another article about the impact the Reds & Indians are having (and will have) on Goodyear & the surrounding areas. This article says that Goodyear is about 20 minutes from Phoenix.

Goodyear is not in the middle of nowhere. That whole NW area of Phoenix is booming. Glendale, for example, is only 20 minutes away and its jam packed with retail businesses. Its a great place if you're a baseball fan because you can easily see many teams in a concentrated area.
