Wondering if anyone would know the answer to this, does the KHSAA rule on a Fall baseball league that has nothing to do with a high school, yet the players are required by the coach to take a weight lifting class in said high school? I guess what I am asking is, is their some sort of rules violation? The coach of this team is affiliated with the high school. Not a head coach, though. But my understanding is that the high school's head baseball coach is the one that is making the requirement of the players. My son was wanting to play and he is trying to get this class and I am checking to make sure so that he doesn't get disqualified for his senior year. Don't want him breaking any rules.

They do have different age groups, but the 16-19 team's players are the only ones required to take this weight lifting class.

Its my understanding, as far as weight lifting and conditioning goes they cant formally say it is a requirement but they can encourage the kids to do it. The head coach can do all he wants in terms of open weight lifting and conditioning just cant give any baseball instruction. As far as the fall league goes Im not exactly sure because our parents run ours, but you will hear different things from different people. Call KHSAA talk to Julian Tackett and he can tell you all you need to know.

I'm assuming your son goes to Knott Central? If so, you guys finally get a young energetic coach that works his tail off, and an asst. coach that proved he could win at June Buchanan School and you want to come on here and question him on a message board? Why not just go to Jamie or Randy and talk to them? First winning season since 2000 at KCC (which was John Meehan's team), first district championship since 2005 (when you were still in the 55th district).

Maybe you should just be thankful that there is interest in baseball in the fall at your school.

I would go to them, but from the questionable things done at KCC last season and the other things concerning sports at KCC, I'd rather not. I wouldn't get a straight answer. I thought that I might here.

I know who is coaching the Fall team and haven't seen him to ask him. And Jamie is there when the Fall team is practicing. So, I don't think I would still get a straight answer.

He can be there... He just cant instruct nor can he run the practice but he can observe. However, really they shouldn't be using anything that the school bought while practicing. Really they shouldn't even be using the high school field to practice. My team practices at our little league fields and uses their equipment and balls, however I am there to watch. Also, like I said I am the one who does our weights and conditioning.

They can use the field. It is just like open gym for basketball.

Yea but things that the school has bought such as balls, bats, cages. etc. to my understanding shouldn't be used.

Basketball uses the goals and nets the school bought. At most schools I'm sure they use the schools basketballs also. Whats good for basketball is good for baseball. As long as the coaches aren't doing any coaching and just supervising they will be all right when the kids workout.
