BuddyBW Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Tigers get out of the gates strong against an up and coming Ballard team.
Xtiger69 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 More later but this Ballard team has a ton of talent. Good first game for the Tigers and something to build on for next week.
THEGREENDANDY Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Nice win for the Tigers. Lamont McMurray gives St.X legit speed at WR. McMurray had several big gains at crucial moments. Buehner played solid all night long. Daylen Hall led the special teams with a 52yd punt return for a TD. K/P Wyatt Gray pinned Ballard deep the entire game. Gray has the best leg I have seen at the high school level. St.X defense had no answer for Ballard WR #1. You can't play 8-10yds off a 6'3" WR. You gotta get in his chest. Outside of that, I was very impressed with the St.X defense. St.X looked much improved this week from the first two scrimmages.
Oxnard Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 DeVante Parker, WR from Ballard, has a lot more going for him besides just his 6-3, 190 build. He also has fantastic speed, hands, and leaping ability. He was blowing by our defensive backs, and they have good speed. Defensively, press coverage by the cornerback, is probably the right move, but if you do this you better be darn sure that you have safety help over the top or it will cost you six. I know it is early, but he is the best high school player I've seen this year.
zanethetrain Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Really believe X is where they need to be. Played fair game with alot of room for improvement between now and playoffs

McMurray has great hands as well and it takes more than one guy to bring him down.Wyatt looked great except on the 2 field goal attempts. Great focus very few mistakes or penalties. Overall good start because Ballard is not a bad team and will have a winning season.

I was surprised that Gray was unsucessful on his three field goal attempts. There was no problem with distance, but the accuracy was not there. Watching the attempts, it looked like the snaps were good, but the holder was bobbling the ball before getting it down. Because of this, I suspect that the ball may not have properly positioned when Wyatt made contact. This is something that can be addressed in film review and corrected in practice. One other thing that I noticed was that after the 1st quarter, the Tigers were not getting getting much of a push from the offensive line on rushing attempts (although the pass blocking was excellent throughout the game). This may have been attributable as much to Ballard defensive adjustments and excellent play by the Bruins front seven, as it was to faults in our blocking execution. Although the Tigers are a work in progress, all in all, a 35-6 opening victory over a tough Ballard team is a super way to start the 2009 Run for the Ring. :ylsuper:
Papalee Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 2,3,4 small numbers but big yards. Catch me, if you can! These tigers F L Y.

Give credit to the Ballard D they are athletic and quick to the ball. Overall you can't help being very pleased the way the Tigers played especially the QB.Great pictures Papalee.

This team has to take one game at a time, but as a fan it's hard not thinking about certain upcoming game or games. I hope we get to face them twice, they might not make it.
Oxnard Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I agree with you on that first field goal..it sure looked good to me Xtiger69. :ylsuper: Those are super pictures, Papalee! :thumb:

5 ROUTE Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 ST. X looked like a machine. They now have a lot of speed to go along with their depth and size.
