John Smith-Former assistant and head coach at WCHS

Josh Bowman-Former Colonel player, former UC player, current assistant

David Halcomb-Current softball coach, former Colonel player

 

All within the system now,(with the exception of John Smith) and at this late date, I think unless they go to the college ranks to get a coach, coaches from within the system may be all they have to chose from for at least this year.

.....and going the college route is not out of the question.

Surely they wouldn't hire a softball coach. A couple of these candidates look really weak. In my opinion, the best decision for the program would be to hire someone from within the system with the understanding that they will have to re-apply for the position next year and that way, next year, they can get the best possible candidate to run their program and one that will hopefully stick for a while.

Whitley has developed a good and improving baseball program. Coach Peace kind of got it started in my opinion by increasing the interest and promoting the program, then Smith came and took them to new heights that Ledington would have built upon. They have a solid foundation now and should be able to continue on their path to success, though it's not going to be easy in the 50th district with 3 other traditionally good teams in South Laurel, Williamsburg and Corbin. I'm not sure who the best choice on that list would be, but I would like to see Burton Richardson staying involved.
