June 19, 200917 yr Billboards Appeal to Pro-Life and Pro-Choice Advocates Following Death of Dr. George Tiller For Immediate Release: June 2, 2009 Contact: Lindsay Rajt 757-622-7382 Wichita, Kan. -- With the debate between pro-choice and pro-life adherents rekindled following the shocking murder of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller at a Wichita church on Sunday, PETA plans to place two billboards in the city. One features the text "Pro-Life? Go Vegetarian" and the other reads, "Pro-Choice? Choose Vegetarian." The group hopes that the ads will help Wichita residents on both sides of the controversy find common ground in concern for the suffering of billions of living beings horrifically abused on factory farms and in slaughterhouses. Why should people with such diverse views all adopt a vegetarian diet? On today's factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds, wire cages, metal crates, and other confinement systems. They are fed drugs that make them grow at an accelerated rate (many animals even become crippled under their own unnatural weight) and keep them alive in such filthy conditions. Eventually, the animals are crowded onto trucks and are transported to slaughter over many miles through all weather extremes. Once at the slaughterhouse, animals are often still conscious as their bodies are skinned or hacked apart or as they are plunged into the scalding-hot water of defeathering or hair-removal tanks. "People who are pro-choice shouldn't choose cruelly produced foods, just as pro-life folks shouldn't support deadly slaughterhouses," says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "It's time for everyone to reject violence and live up to their ideals--if you're truly acting out of a desire to end suffering, start with what you put on your plate." June 19, 200917 yr Amen to the bolded. I think that many prefer generalizations because it is easier than realizing that people are individuals and have separate thoughts...which means if you really want to know what they think, you have to make the attempt to know them individually. I will make another general statement, those who are members of PETA are wacko's if they stay in a group that makes a big issue over killing a fly. If I was a member of a group that wants people to catch flies in a container so that you can release them and did not know the difference between an insect and an animal, I believe I would have my head checked. Surely there are more important things in life. Babies are being dismembered and having their brains sucked out, if someone wants a cause and something to stand up for, there's one.
