Just curious to get details on the other districts. I watched Corbin beat SL tonight in a great game. Brock got a lot of pop-ups and some great D. Shortstop made a fine play to end the game. I heard Pineville upset Knox Central in that final, so anyone got details of that game or any of the other districts????

So Akins now becomes the all time HR leader at NL is that correct? She has absolutely been killing the ball this year. Last time I checked, her batting average was .561, and against a very tough schedule. Centre got an absolute STEAL in this kid!

Didn't realize her average was that high, very impressive against the schedule they've played. Heard Harlan Co beat Bell 6-4 tonight. Disappointing season for Bell, coming off a 18-11 season and adding all of that young talent with a "Hall of Fame" coach that was supposed to lead them to the promised land this year. Too much talk and not enough coaching... So Harlan Co and Middlesboro is the only game left, right?

Bell did fine and will do a whole lot better next season. Looks like It's North, Corbin and South in the region and then the others.

If you look at the past few seasons of postseason play, North Laurel has been a different squad in the postseason, ... much more focused. I truly believe that playing all those top ranked teams year in and year out prepares them for the postseason better than anyone else in the region. North Laurel was 8-2 (if my numbers are right, I may have missed a few) this season against team's in the season ending top 25 poll, and had several wins against the teams in the 'also receiving votes' category.

 

Looking at the 2008 district, region & state last year, Cumberland scored 1 run on NL in the region, but lost 11-1 in 5 innings. The only other team to score on NL in the postseason last year was Greenwood (5 in the winners bracket finals and 6 in the state title game). North finished strong with wins over North Hardin & Anderson County in L'ville this past weekend. I just think even with all that youth, North Laurel could run thru the district and region again this year. They hit a lot of popups against Corbin just over a week ago, and it looked to me like they were swinging for the fences after walloping Corbin 14-0 earlier in the season. Corbin is playing very well, .. beating South in 2 straight seasons tells me that the Corbin program has really improved. Shirer (SS) for Corbin is a VERY talented player. I just think that the North is going to be hard for anyone in the region to beat right now, especially coming off the way they played this past weekend.

Yea, I agree. Wasn't downing Corbin at all, they've got great players. But come postseason, NL is almost unbeatable over the last 4-5 years. Brock has a good rise ball also. SL had several popups and weak flyballs tonight. Wouldn't call 9-19 a "fine season", Bell only lost two srs last year and played an average schedule at best. The kids have the talent and will, got to watch them a few times, just wonder about the coaching. Loved Hart's reaction tonight when he won, straight to his knees after the last out. He's truely a class act!!!

I called it a fine season and I'll stick with it. It's easy to take a shot at a coach, but that's your perogative. The guy led Middlesboro's program to the state tournament numerous times and built it to one of the more respected programs in the state. To question his coaching is a joke.

It's easy to do that when you have all-state caliber players at each position. Middlesboro won the first region in 95 with Kenny Roark coaching, so I wouldn't necessarily say he built it. And after that great group graduated in 04, he lost in the semi-finals to Rock and in 06 in the finals to South I believe. I believe in giving credit where credit is due and Middlesboro did DOMINATE the region from 99 to 04, but it's easy to win with great talent. He uses youth as an excuse for losing, good coaches don't make excuses. That and I got to listen to him once when he was at Middlesboro speak, way too much I's, my's, and me's... :puke:

It's easy to get on here and bash a fella, but he's one of the most respected coaches in the state. No reason to shed sour grapes about the guy because he is successful. I sense lot of jeolousy and after knowing what I know now I know why. LOL.

??? Not sure what the last part means, but never said I didn't respect what M'boro has done. Notice I said they DOMINATED the 13th. From 99-04 I don't think they took a loss in region until the semi-finals in the 05 regional tournament. I can't remember if he was coaching when Cumberland beat M'boro in the all A or not. You're right about Bell also, they've not beat M'boro since 98. I have no sour grapes as you put it, toward the man, he got himself a great team. I just believe he should have accomplished more than he did after all of the promises when he was hired. He inherited a lot of talent including a great group of freshmen. Really not even "bashing" him, as much as disagreeing with you about them having a "fine" season.
