Major upset in the 19th District tournament. Bardstown won only its second game of the year, upending top-seeded Bethlehem by coming from three runs down in its final at-bat.

 

The Eagles had beaten the Tigers 13-0 in each of their two games this season. The Tigers got out to a 5-2 lead after the first two innings, but appeared to have had their fun for the day when the Eagles came back and scored four in the fourth to go up 6-5. They added two more in the sixth, but the Tigers were undeterred, stringing together a few base hits to score five times in the top of the seventh to win it. I was told Dominique McMakin went 4-for-4 in the game for B'town.

 

I'm still extremely shocked by this. If you look here, you'll probably understand why this may be the biggest upset in the state tonight. Most of the kids on the Tiger roster are freshmen or younger.

Just curious as to who Bethlehem pitched. I know they have two fine pitchers but I can't remember their names. Did they gamble and save them since Bardstown only had 2 wins and Bethlehem beat them so handily during the season?

I would have to agree. What makes it even more shocking is that it's not your typical type of upset where the weaker team has one real good pitcher. They didn't really get a spectacular performance out of their pitchers; more like just enough. Their biggest thing was how their bats woke up out of nowhere the last couple weeks.

This is a HUGE upset. That is why they play the games.
