Oscar Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Isler is now 8-0 on the season, against some top teams in NKY and around the state. Impressive. It helps to have the defense behind him and the lineup CovCath has. CovCath just keeps rollin. They also won the game right before verse Clark maybe?
colonel-fan Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 CovCath reigns at Boyd Classic CovCath reigns at Boyd Classic By AARON SNYDER — For The Independent CANNONSBURG — Covington Catholic reigned supreme once again in the Town Square Bank Derby Classic with three convincing victories over two days at Boyd County High School. It was the second straight year the Colonels emerged as the tournament champions.
Theoldguy Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Isler indeed was impressive, as was Moore for our host from Boyd County. It was a good old pitching duel, until the CovCath sixth, when CovCath blew it open. CovCath 1st: Three up three down 4-3, K and 6 Boyd 1st: Boyd scored via CovCath infield errors and a sac. CovCath 2nd: Three up three down 4, 6-3 and K Boyd 2nd: K, K and 3 It went this way pretty much until the CovCath half of the sixth inning: Nutini started off the inning with a base hit then was moved to 2nd via a sac bunt by Siemer. One out, man on second, and the Boyd County coach makes a huge mistake (IMO) when he internationally walks Maile to get to Darner. As it gets dark after the sun goes down, Darner comes through with a double to knock in a run (where are you at College Coaches don't you understand this kid lives to drive in RBI"s, does your team score that many runs a game, that you don't need a hitter like this?). Ilser up with two men on and he hits a ball deep enough to score Maile but the Boyd CF makes a outstanding throw to cut down Darner at third. Great throw by the Boyd CF Wiler (sp?). After the end of the CovCath half of the sixth, it is now CovCath leading by a score of 3-1. Like ever innings since the 1st Isler puts down Boyd 3, 5, and K CovCath top of the seventh: CovCath bats around and scores 4 runs and the play of the game was in this inning. Holocher walks, Lafever walks Schlagbaum puts down a very nice sac bunt to put runners on second and third with one out and Martin at the plate. In Krumps fashion (small ball rules) Martin lays down a perfect squeeze bunt that scores Holocher but Martin beats the threw to first for a hit, and not more than ten feet behind Holocher as he crosses the plate is Lafever who slides across the plate safe. Martin puts down a bunt and gets 2 rbi's! Outstanding play and one of the more exciting plays in baseball! Martin then scores on a single by Siemer and he scores as Isler drives him home. After the CovCath half of the seventh it's CovCath 7 Boyd 1. Boyd to their credit didn't roll over and scored their lone earned run on a couple of back to back to back hits, before Isler got the last Boyd batter to bounce into a 5-3 out. CovCath goes 3-0 in the Town Square Bank Derby Classic and gets three outstanding pitching performances from their three top pitchers this weekend, each with complete game victories. CovCath hitting: Nutini 4 PA 1 run scored and 2 hits Siemer 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit 1 rbi 1 k and 1 sac Maile 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit and 1 walk Darner 4 PA 2 hits double 1 rbi (48) and 1 walk Isler 4 PA 1 hit 2 rbi's and 1 sac Holocher 4 PA 1 run scored 1 walk and 2 k's Lafever 3 PA 2 runs scored 2 walks and 1 k Schlagbaum 3 PA 1 k Martin 3 PA 1 run scored 1 hit and 2 rbi's CovCath pitching: Isler (8-0) 108 pitches 7 complete innings 31 PA 5 hits 2 runs 1 earned run 2 walks 8 k's CovCath is now 22-3 and has played four of the top ten teams in the Coaches Poll and has beaten three of them. CovCath game with Hamilton Badin (ohio) that was to be played Tuesday at Badin has been canceled by Badin, but CovCath will play Highlands Tuesday. At this time, I am not sure of the location or the time of the game. Again a huge thank you to the folks at Boyd County for hosting such a great baseball event....:clap::clap::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:
