Final in 6 innings. Casey held Somerset scoreless through 3 innings but the Briar Jumpers got 5 runs in each of the 4th, 5th and 6th innings while Casey scored all 3 of theirs in the bottom of the 5th. Sophmore Ben Purcell got the start for Somerset and he went 4 scoreless innings for the win. With the win Somerset clinches the #1 seed in the 47th District Tournament. The Briar Jumpers are now 13-4 and 5-1 in the District.

Who is the favorite in the 47th District this season?

It's sad that Casey County has struggled so mightily over the years to field competitive baseball teams. They always seem to be chasing two or three teams in their district. Where have you gone, Jimmy Brown?

I would think Somerset would have to be considered the favorite. They're 5-1 in the District and 9-1 in the Region and will get to play Casey County in the first round so they should be able to save their top 2 pitchers for the finals. On Monday the Briar Jumpers beat Rockcastle County's ace Tanner Perkins 4-3 at Rockcastle while pitching their #3 starter. The Rockets will probably have to throw Perkins against Pulaski in the first round since the Maroons have already beaten Rock once. Of course if they are able to get by the Maroons without Perkins then the finals look like another tossup. Somerset has the best team overall, but Perkins is the best pitcher and gives Rock an edge in any game he starts.
