Nice pitcher's duel between two lefties, Ryle's Donovan and Dixie's Smallwood. A huge 2-run double off the wall in RCF by Ryan Oliver is the difference in the game. Nice defense by both clubs. Very nice defensive game by Ryle's CF Lonkard.

 

Kyle Donovan has hands-down, absolutely, unequivocally established himself as a top 10 pitcher in NKY. His last 3 games (against Trinity, Highlands, and Dixie) he has gone either 6+ innings or a complete game and given up but one earned run in each game. His "worst" outing this entire season was a 4-inning, 3 earned run performance against CCH. Talk about a kid who succeeds because he knows how to keep the ball down. I'm not certain he's thrown 15 pitches all year above the knees. It's almost ridiculous at times. Congrats to him! At this point of the season, I think I'd take him on the mound over any junior pitcher in NKY. He's just that good.

Smallwood and Donovan are both good pitchers. Congrats to Ryle on this win. I thought Dixie would pull it out.

Congrats to the Raiders on a good win. They did the little things they needed to win this game.

 

Now to Dixie.

 

The Good: The pitching from Smallwood and Burney gave them a chance to win.

 

The Bad: The fundamental mistakes. Base running against a lefty, not advancing on a passed ball, and not knowing when to be the cutoff.

 

The Ugly: I have to say the weather the past few weeks that have made it hard for players (from any team) to get into a real rhythm at the plate.

 

Dixie is now 8-5 and will play Boone County today (4/23) at Dixie at 5:00.
