Final from Somerset in 5 innings. Somerset jumped on top early and cruised to the win. The Briar Jumpers scored 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd and 7 in the 3rd off of 3 Clay County pitchers. Senior centerfielder Jeremy Toohey had a hit 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Sophmore secondbaseman Taylor Sears had a double, single 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Sophmore JP Henderlight pitched 4 innings of 2 hit ball for the win and fellow sophmore Ben Purcell closed out with a scoreless 5th. With the win Somerset moves to 5-2 on the year while Clay County drops to 7-2.

 

On a side note both of Clay County's pitchers were removed from the game in the middle of the inning after being roughed up. On both occasions the pitchers threw the ball to the ground over their shoulder instead of handing it to their coach or one of the other players. I understand that they were upset with their performance but it seemed very bush league--is this normal for the Tigers?

Somerset has a very nice team. They were leading Louisville Eastern 2-0 after 5 innings in Florida before imploding and losing 13-2. They are very young with only 3 seniors but they have several kids that can play.

Don't be so quick to count Clay out this early in the season. They do in fact have a solid team, however, the game of baseball is very humbling at times as proven with today's game.

I don't think Somerset's win should come as a suprise, maybe the margin but not the win. The Briar Jumpers have a very talented, young team that could make some noise in the 12th Region this season.

 

Clay's pitching did not seem especially strong and they seemed to hang their heads early. Like I said before both times thier pitcher was removed from the game the pitcher that was being taken out flung the ball over his shoulder instead of handing it to the coach or a catcher. I was really suprised to see the coach allow them to remain in the game in another position.
