Congrats to South Laurel's Chelsea Weems

Featured Replies

In a 5-2 win over Williamsburg, 8th grader Chelsea Weems, in her first varsity at bat hit a solo home run over the left field wall. What a way to start a high school career!

Chelsea has the potential to challenge many home run records before she is done at South Laurel. Just an 8th grader, but started hitting the ball out last year in her first season of middle school softball as a 7th grader. TONS of power.

Congratulations to the young lady!

Wow. What a great accomplishment at that level for an 8th grader, period, but let alone at her first at bat!

She hit 2 out in the Scott County middle school tournament last year and 2 more off the fence. She hit 3-4 to or off the fence against North Laurel middle last year. She has power galore and is a legit 8th grader, not a holdback. Usually has a smile on her face, and if I had power like that at her age, I would have been smiling as well! She didn't play school ball in 6th grade, just little league. She is a true power hitter.

I attached a picture from the Times Tribune taken by Travis Smith as she was being congratulated by Coach Kaye Smith and teammate CJ Johnson.
