Let me add the top scorers for the Raiders.

 

Law had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sullivan had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Turner had 11 points.

 

Great job, Raiders! Talk about a team that never quit!

 

Also, kudos to Trimble's pep block. They were singing the Trimble fight song while all their opponents "fans" could yell were "you suck." That's got to make their school and parents proud.

I can tell you that kids are kids and when you get a South (crestwood) fan talking about kids comments that is the pot calling the kettle black. These are the fans that used a school issue with a coach 4 years ago to blister a cheerleader to the point of breaking down and crying then running out of the gym. ANY cheering section is going to say bad things, that is no question and North is just as guilty of it. I would look at the South vs. North game this year and say that the "Three %$^$ chump" cry from the stands was one of the most ridiculous things ever said to a player. They said so many things that were rude to players it is ridiculous, but you don't see us complain. It is part of the game.

 

North has some fans that are radical and say things they shouldn't, but I can tell you they are more passionate and driven for their school than South. Evident by the 2x or more kids we had @ South for our first game.

 

Let's not get on our moral high horse and point to anyones community spirit because it isn't just North on the top of a mountain saying things to players.

I disagree. Profanity yelled in "cheers" from the "pep" block is NOT part of the game. That and "you suck" chants are telling of what type of atmosphere is allowed and possibly even promoted. I would think that NO would promote more eloquent vocabulary from their students. Not all "kids" act in the manner displayed last night. I much prefer a school that has a PEP block that cheers FOR their team and sings the school song than one that uses profanity and seldom does anything except "cheer" against the other team.

 

I found it ironic that the "you suck" chants were against the kid that dunked the ball on North right after the tip. I wonder how many in the stands could do that? Likewise, the same chant was done for the kid that scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds.

 

I also found it interesting that part of NO's team refused to shake hands with Trimble's Coach Lauster. Luckily, one of NO's assistant coaches corrected that issue. Kudos to him.

I would agree 100% with you. I think it has no place and should be addressed. Unfortunately it is true of all 3 schools in OC because of the bitter rivalries. Not an excuse but an explanation.

 

Trimbles kids are awesome and fantastic senior role models. I would think that Coach Lauster would confirm that exactly that was told to him after the game.

 

Much respect for the Raiders, a team that fought hard and to the end.

Taunting takes many forms...even in message boards...but when I grew up, I was taught that this was their problem, not mine. I can either elevate it by returning it, or rise above it.

 

Unfortunately, I missed almost all of last night's game. (The reason I did not have all the stats in my recap, above, as I usually do for you good folks) I conducted our pre-game show (before the girls' game), then left and did not return until the fourth quarter of the NO-TC game. Both crowds were loud and into it...

 

I was sitting on the TC side, and I could quote quite a few unsavory things said by the Raiders' fans near me that I wouldn't want my kids to hear. But it is immaterial. There are these types of "fans" everywhere...and I don't think making it bulletin board material is really "rising above".

 

Both teams also have their fair share of wonderful fans. And I'd rather talk about them and their respective teams.

 

I was impressed by both teams' play - the part I got to see. Congrats to the Mustangs, and kudos to Trimble for playing a gallant game. They didn't give up, even when the lead mushroomed to 22 early in the fourth... They just succumbed to the fact that North had too many fresh legs...

I think that the difference between what you describe from what you heard is that of a permitted group action vs. the action of a single individual. We are not talking about SOME...it was the entire NO "pep" block. (I won't mention the individual comments that I heard from NO fans sitting behind me.) It's a different mindset, I guess. TCHS simply doesn't allow continuous negative or profane group chants. If other schools do, that's on them, but it certainly does not promote an impression of class.

 

I guess one can choose to "rise above" or one can make it known that the impression is being made. I've never been one to gloss things over or pretend that they do not exist.

All Pegasus broadcasts are archived...you can go to the website http://www.teamline.cc, enter 7761, and click on "Schedules & Archives". Choose the game you wish to listen to, and click "stream".

 

Note: If the broadcast was a doubleheader, there's only one archived file, so you may have to listen to part of the first game to hear the second! (You can slide a bar to skip some of the first game, but the bar isn't very exact...)
