FarBeyondDriven Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Final from North Oldham. North scores winning bucket with 2.1 seconds. Gallatin 30 footer falls short at buzzer.
BasketballFreak91 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 From reading other post North Oldham seemed the far superior team. Sounds like Gallatin put up a fight! Any stats?
ColonelMike Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Gallatin certainly put up a fight - as one might expect from any Jon Jones-coached team. North bolted out to early leads of 10-13 points, and led, 38-30 at the half. Gallatin exploded for 30 in the third and actually took a 60-59 lead into the final period. With a little over a minute to play, tied at 71, Gallatin spread the floor and held the ball for the last shot. They dished down low with about 25 seconds left, but lost the handle on the pass, and Devon Rowan grabbed the loose ball for North. After a timeout, North set up a final play that worked really well when Dale Tingle got free on the baseline for a layup for his only two points of the game. Gallatin actually caught a break on the scoreboard; Tingle shot the ball as the clock ticked under 2 seconds - from our vantage point, we were looking at Tingle with the scoreboard directly above him - but of course, the officials cannot "instantaneously" see the scoreboard, and 2.1 was placed on the board. Gallatin got off a pretty solid shot, as Maddox caught the ball near mid-court, took three dribbles, and launched an uncontested (but running) three pointer from about 30 feet that missed. For whatever the reason - senior night, players back from injuries, lack of concentration, great Wildcat defense - North seemed unfocused. They committed over 20 turnovers and didn't move their feet on defense, resulting in a wide disparity in foul shooting in the first half. (Gallatin shot 26 FTs for the game to North's 8, but I wouldn't say the officiating was bad...it was very good for the most part) Both teams shot well, but primarily because most baskets came from near the rim! North did hit 9 threes, however. Mustangs played without Kyle Feuquay, who was home hill. the 6'6 Senior center averages around 8 ppg and 5 reb.... Both teams have been banged up. Four Mustangs returned to the lineup after having been out for about 1-2 weeks... Maddox is definitely still not 100% for Gallatin, but played an inspired game. North Oldham 21 17 21 14 - 73 Gallatin County 15 15 30 11 - 71 North - Foley 17, Tuller 14, Creech 12, St. Julien 10, Rowan 6, Menefee 6, LaGrange 4, Watson 2, Tingle 2 Gallatin - Maddox 15, Davis 13, Jones 11, Williamson 11, Dossett 9, Morgan 6, Carlton 4, Walker 2 Shooting: Overall - North 50% (30/60), Gallatin 52% (26/50) three pointers - North 37.5% (9/24), Gallatin 33% (3/9) free throws - North 50% (4/8), Gallatin 61.5% (16/26) Three pointers: North: Creech 4, Foley 3, Menefee 2 Gallatin: Davis 3 Rebounds (unofficial) North 25, Gallatin 25 North improves to 18-8; Gallatin falls to 12-11.
