buttels Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Final tonight from Beechwood. Coach Stamm and the Panthers clinch their 4th straight Div. 3 NKAC Championship with the win tonight. Another banner for the gym. Congratulations to this group of young ladies on a great accomplishment!!!:dancingpa
gbbfan Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 How many seniors do they have they really matter for the team? Is their "dynasty" on the fringe of ending? And if that happens will Stamm jump ship or will we find out how good of a coach is really is when coaching less talent? They dominate Div. III schools but they haven't been able to go up one more level and beat Div. II or Div. I schools. Playing the weaker schedule doesn't help them prepare for the tougher opponents.
bs24 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 It is not Ludlow's (or any DIII school's) fault that they play a weak schedule. All of these schools are required to play 2 games against each conference team. When Calvary chose not to field a Varsity team many of you criticized them for doing so. However, it was a real benefit to the stronger DIII teams to be able to replace those games with stronger competition and I think they took advantage of that opportunity. Ludlow graduates about 4-5 significant players this year. It will probably take a bit for them to rebuild but I can't imagine Stamm not fielding a pretty competitive team.
EQUUS GREVYI Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I believe the DIV III conference schedule mandates that they play each other school twice. With the majority of the schedule dedicated to meeting your conference requirements and district seeding requirements, there is only so much that can be done with the rest of your season. Ludlow did strengthened their schedule this season and played non-conference games against Boone County, Highlands, St. Henry, Holmes, Brossart, Dixie and NCC in the finals of the All "A". Although they have only managed to beat Dixie from that group, they have played a pretty good schedule this year.
gbbfan Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I knew they had to play the DIII schools twice but I was just eluding to the fact that it didn't help them prepare for bigger schools. Playing the larger schools (and only beating Dixie) showed they are a competitive with the larger schools but still not on the level where they can beat them and this team may be the last team in a while to do so. As far as Calvary - they should have played a varsity schedule because they had plenty of players and would have been competitive with most DIII schools. IMO, they took the easy road out.
Rockets Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 They played St Pat Maysville in the beginning of the season. How big of a school are they?
EQUUS GREVYI Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 St Patrick is actually a bit smaller than Ludlow with a current enrollment of 121 vs. 162 at Ludlow
20/20Hindsight Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 St Patrick is actually a bit smaller than Ludlow with a current enrollment of 121 vs. 162 at Ludlow Is Ludlow really that small these days? For some reason, I was thinking they were in the mid 200's.
buttels Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 They also have wins against Holmes and Lexington Sayre who is 15-6 on the year as we speak. That's why there are 3 divisions of the conference. Why the hate for the Panthers GEEZ??? :idunno:

We all know that is not always the case with successful programs. No mysterious transfers have tainted the legitimacy of their success. And, in my opinion, that makes Ludlow's program even more special.
