gchs_uk9 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Casey County came to Lancaster on Saturday evening and left with an impressive win over the Garrard County Golden Lions. All of the magic that had made this season so special for the Lions seemed to disappear during the fourth quarter and overtime. Garrard was 6-for-18 at the foul line on the evening, and unofficially were outrebounded by at least twenty. Garrard opened the first quarter with a 15-14 lead and stretched it to 28-19 at the half. It was a comfortable 41-29 margin after three quarters when Casey mounted a furious rally. The Rebels scored 46 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, while holding the Lions to 25. Garrard contributed to the rally by turning the ball over on numerous occasions, hoisting up an untold number of awful shots and showing no ability to stop Casey's penetration. Casey was led by Elliott Cannon who had 22 points and absolutely dominated the boards. Kyle Jeffries and Jordan Spangoletti each had 13, while Brad Jeffries scored 11. Garrard was led by Evan Preston with 21, followed by Tyler Woods with 15, Justin Ray 12 and Hunter Hensley 10. All in all, a bad night for the Lions. Garrard will look to return to the win column on Tuesday night against Mercer County.
Raider97 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Congrads to the Rebels on a great win... I have some friends near the Casey program and they say this group of guys really play with a lot of heart.

I have some friends near the Casey program and they say this group of guys really play with a lot of heart. They definitely play with heart. They never quit playing. Casey is a pretty solid team - I think they have a really good shot at winning the 47th District. Garrard was playing their fourth game in six nights. Since Garrard barely uses their bench, the legs really didn't seem to be there. That was disappointing.
ebayer Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Wow! an unexpected big regional win for Casey Co. Puts them on the 12th Region Contender Radar!
gchs_uk9 Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Wow! an unexpected big regional win for Casey Co. Puts them on the 12th Region Contender Radar! Got to see Pulaski on Friday and then Casey on Saturday. Those two play each other in the first round of the 47th District. I was much more impressed with Casey County than Pulaski. Elliott Cannon dominated on the low block.
gchs_uk9 Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Better come ready to play each night. Agreed. The 12th Region is so balanced and has so many teams capable of winning on any given night. If teams don't recognize that, district tournaments could be one-and-done.
