Qryche11 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Final. Any details on this one? I read in the paper where Conner led at halftime and the Birds came out and took over in the 2nd half. Grote led in scoring for the Birds. Nice to have Grubbs back as well.

gametime Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Very fast paced game in the 1st half. Kowolonek scored 11 points in the first few minutes to set the pace for Highlands, and Avery answered back with a flurry of his own to keep pace. Both teams were flying up and down the court, and baskets were being scored before I could write the previous 2 down in my notebook. Mid way through the 2nd Q Conner went to a 1-3-1 look and Grote gashed them by attacking the rim for layups. Both teams went zone to start the 2nd half and it slowed the action down quite a bit as the game settled in and Highlands started to take control. Conner started to get a little breathing room and went up by 7, but Grote and Gordon combined for 3 triples in quick fashion and from there Highlands started to take over. Not sure why Grubbs isn't in the box score, but he gave them some very nice production in the paint. His footwork and hands are very impressive for someone that huge. He twice got tangled up with Cougars and I thought they were going to need a spatula to peel them off the floor after he landed on them. Very exciting and well played game by both squads...
