Garrard County vs Sayre (1/16)

Featured Replies

I think the Lions will take this one. It's in Lancaster. Don't know much about Sayre though.

Sayre is 5-8 on the year, with two wins over Kentucky Country Day, along with wins over Bourbon County, Paris and Nicholas County. Their wins have all been blowouts, so they've got that going for them.

Unfortunately they have also had some losses to teams they might should have beat, including the likes of Menifee, Paris, Frankfort and Williamstown. If you want to talk about "good losses," there is a 2-point loss to University Heights, along with losses to district foes Henry Clay and Bryan Station.

If you want to compare opponents they lost by 4 to a Frankfort team that Garrard County beat by 20. So realistically, Garrard County should win. The only concern I would have is that this will be the Lions first game since Saturday and Lincoln County comes calling on Tuesday. Sort of falls in the "trap" zone. But if you fancy yourself a regional contender, then you have to beat Sayre.

Also, FWIW, this will be the third all-time meeting between the two schools. Sayre has won both matchups. The first was a 52-50 overtime win in Lancaster in 1986, and the second was a 64-44 romp in Lexington the following year. Of course that 1987 Golden Lion team went 2-22!

Those are some great stats! I think Garrard will take this one. I really hope the band can make it out, and get rowdy for the kids. Garrard can move to 13-3 on the season after this game. Do you know when the last time Garrard started that well gchs? I can't find it anywhere...

Don't forget last year's team began 8-3! There have been several good starts in Garrard history and this year is no different. Posted are the five best starts, along with final record and playoff result.

2002-03

1965-66

So Garrard needs to win their next four to have the best start in school history. That will be tough because those wins would have to come over Sayre, Lincoln, East Jessamine and Boyle!

If there is a common thread at Garrard with great starts, it is not such good finishes. Hopefully that trend will reverse itself this season.

Garrard Co. 62-45.
